Ted Cruz has replaced Marco Rubio as the favorite Hispanic among Conservatives. Rubio was popular early on but his semi-Liberal stances and things like immigration has pushed him to the back of the pack. Ted Cruz is Hispanic, a Tea Party candidate, and from Texas. But he was born in Canada and lived there for the first few years of his life. As it turns out, he’s even eligible for dual Canadian-American citizenship.
That’s bad when you’re running for president and many members of your party were known as “Birthers.”
So now Cruz’ chances for running for president might be dead and Liberals will rejoice… not only will a popular Hispanic Conservative get nixed but they can turn the Birther issue around on Republicans and make them pay, and dearly.
Birtherism began when Barack Obama was looking like he was going to have a shot at the White House. The Birther issue originated with Hillary Clinton’s campaign but they dropped it when word got out. Conservatives like Donald Trump ran with it, however. And, like a poison pill, many swallowed the claim that Obama had a forged American birth certificate and was somehow a foreign born one man Muslim sleeper cell.
What I never understood about Birtherism was that how could anybody forget that Obama’s mother was born in America… Kansas to be exact. So, from what I’ve read on the subject, Obama would have been qualified to be president. Mitt Romney’s dad, who was born to American parents in Mexico, was qualified to run for president (he did) and John McCain was born on a military base in Panama and was qualified to run.
Many said Birtherism was racism in disguise and there may have been some Birthers who didn’t like Obama because he is half black… or maybe that he seemed so “different” and had a shady past and parents.
Whatever the reasons, Cruz is going to get the third degree from the Liberal media about the Birther issue and unless the same Conservatives who spoke out against Obama do the same thing with Cruz, all Conservatives will get labelled as hypocrites.
It’s going to be a huge issue handing over Cruz’ campaign and I don’t think he’s ready to handle it.
Cruz hasn’t done anything wrong himself but the fact that the Birthers went so loudly (and stupidly) against Obama means they may have doomed Cruz, too.
