Bill Maher, Donald Trump, and the $5 Million “Bet”

FacebookGoogle+RedditTwitterPinterestTumblrEmailShare

Bill Maher is a “comedian.”  I use that term lightly because he really isn’t overly funny since his targets are the low hanging fruit of the Boy Scouts, Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, etc…  Maher takes few chances on his show, Real Time with Bill Maher.  Because he always plays to a house that agrees with him, he’s gotten pretty lazy.

I guess that’s what happens when you surround yourself with “yes” men.

The always cultured Maher had joked on his show that Donald Trump’s father was an orangutan.  Maher visited Jay Leno’s show and said he’d donate $5 million to charity if Trump could prove his father wasn’t an ape.

Trump produced his birth certificate, Maher didn’t pay up, now Trump is suing.

Maher doubled down and said he wouldn’t pay and called Trump all kinds of names:

I ignored the letter, like all letters I get from crazy people. Until this week, when Trump and his lawyer, pictured here, when they actually sued me for the five million. And don’t forget, this is not a libel case, no no, they seem to be trying to set a bold new precedent that jokes on late night talk shows are now legally binding agreements between the comedian and the person they are making fun of. Yes, I’m sure this will go all the way to the Supreme Court. You know, I’ll tell you something. The legal system in this country is not a joke. It’s not a toy for rich idiots to play with.

So who really cares about Trump and Maher and what they’re doing?  Trump is almost as obnoxious as Maher is but here’s the part that got me:

[T]hey seem to be trying to set a bold new precedent that jokes on late night talk shows are now legally binding agreements between the comedian and the person they are making fun of.

That’s Sarah Palin – sexism comes in many subtle forms.

Every time Maher (or Letterman) have said things that are insulting (Sarah Palin’s daughter getting raped, calling Palin a “dumb twat,” etc…) it is chalked up as:  “It’s comedy, people… don’t take it so seriously.”

Comedy.

Satire.

But only when a Liberal does it, right?

When a Conservative talks about “Chicago politics” it’s racist but when Bill Maher calls Sarah Palin a “dumb twat” it’s comedy.

See how that works?

Once again, Maher is trying to weasel his way out by saying:  “It’s comedy!”

Here’s a sample article from a Liberal site:

At the end of the day, Bill Maher treated Donald Trump like the joke that he is. No one should take Donald Trump seriously. In fact, anyone who takes Trump seriously shouldn’t be allowed to vote, breed, or drive a car. In reality, the right only embraced Donald Trump because they thought supporting him was a cleverly encoded way of expressing their racism towards President Obama without the rest of us catching on. We’ve always known what they are doing, and now it’s time for a little payback.

This is really how the Left feels and it’s all about “payback.”

Using the term “comedy” is just a fig leaf.

Yes, the left hides behind “comedy” to insult the right but we have all heard the saying that many a true word is spoken in jest. These people use “jokes” to promote how they really feel and while I am no fan of Trump I do enjoy the fact that he is calling out Maher.
