Wacky Wednesday: Democrat in Kalifornia Wants Gun Owners to Be Forced to Carry Firearm Insurance

Just when I wonder how much more Democrats can screw up California, there is another example:

Democratic lawmakers proposed legislation Tuesday that would require California gun owners to buy liability insurance to cover damages or injuries caused by their weapons.

“I was moved, like many others, being the father of two young children, by the Sandy Hook incident and looking for constructive ways to manage gun violence here in California as well as the rest of the country,” said Assemblyman Philip Ting of San Francisco, who introduced AB231 along with Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez of Los Angeles. “There’s basically a cost that is born by the taxpayers when accidents occur. … I don’t think that taxpayers should be footing those bills.”

Ting equated the idea to requiring vehicle owners to buy auto insurance. Gomez said it would encourage gun owners to take firearms safety classes and keep their guns locked up to get lower insurance rates.

Some proposals would require buyers to show proof of insurance before they could purchase a weapon. The proposal in California would apply to anyone owning a weapon, Ting said, though the bill’s details are still being worked out.

Might we add, unlike driving a car, owning a firearm is a Constitutionally guaranteed right.

Requiring insurance sets up a barrier to exercising that right and, under current law, if somebody acts improperly with their firearm they can be jailed/sued.

In Kalifornia the law states that “deadly force” may only be used if there is no other option.  So if you could run away, that is your legal obligation so carrying firearm insurance is simply a way to offer someone a disincentive to not own a firearm.

Yet another example as to how Democrats hate freedom, the Constitution, and don’t believe in the rights given to us by our creator.

Phil Ting hates the Constitution, apparently.

Wow, what nonsense! Liberals seem intent on doing whatever they can do to circumvent the 2nd Amendment, or to make it harder for law abiding citizens to exercise the rights guaranteed us under the Constitution. At least, they are consistent with their actions.

This guy represents San Francisco so no surprise.

The Democrats don’t seem to understand the difference between a constitutionally guaranteed right and a privilege and this is a perfect example of that. This man is comparing apples and oranges.

I say it’s war on the middle class. An attempt to price the middle income individuals out of gun ownership. Disgusting.
