New gun laws are coming this year?
Pick up a newspaper or watch TV and you’d think that, wouldn’t you? New bills are being introduced that seek to limit Constitutional Rights.
This isn’t the Clinton administration.
The House of Representatives is currently controlled by the Republican party. That isn’t going to change any time soon and it appears extremely unlikely.
Without support in the House there never will be a bill that makes it to the White House.
And in the Senate we have Democrat Harry Reid.
Reid might be a partisan hack from Nevada and have deep ties to the casinos but in the past he’s been no friend to gun grabber legislation. Hell, the NRA even endorsed his Senate bid in the past and didn’t take sides in his 2010 election fight.
Reid has a “B” rating from the NRA which, for a Liberal, is like an A+.
So is Harry Reid really going to blow it with the NRA and Nevadans to support a gun grabber bill that isn’t going to pass in the House?
Most likely the answer is “no.”
Reid didn’t get to be Senate Majority Leader by being stupid.
So where does that leave Obama?
He and his lackey, Joe Biden, can stump and scare and support tougher gun measures on the state level (already going to happen in NY most likely) and that’s about it except for using a president’s last resort… Executive Orders.
Democrats (and Obama) criticized George W. Bush for using Executive Orders to bypass Congress but Biden has already let it be known that this option is on the table and most likely is going to happen:
There are executive orders, there’s executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet. But we’re compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required.
Already Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report has jumped on it:
Dropping the Hitler/Stalin bomb regarding gun control is old stuff for those of us who follow Conservative media on the Internet. But maybe Drudge, after getting his shock value, thought it was too much and switched later to a copy of the Constitution and a picture of a Maine statue of a Minute Man holding a musket:
Obama has his entire second term and it would seem suicidal for him to attempt to go to war against the 2nd Amendment especially without controlling both houses of Congress.
Perhaps Obama feels somewhat invincible now that he’s won a second term?
Or maybe he just wants to leave a second “stamp” on America (the first being Obamacare)?
Only time will tell what sort of restrictions he can place on firearms using only Executive Orders but, as someone who considers himself a Conservative and not and Obama supporter I hope the president loses his political ass fighting to restrict firearm ownership.
