We interrupt our normal political banter for a short note regarding what you’re likely to find at Capitol Commentary over the following two weeks…

As we said on January 1st, Capitol Commentary might very well morph into a sort of travel blog for a bit.  I’ll be covering about 3,500 miles over two weeks as I again visit the lovely state of Wyoming.  Yellowstone National Park kind of grabbed me when I was last there in 2010 (you may read the article about that trip here) and ever since I’ve wanted to experience it in the Winter.

I grew up on the East Coast and I sometimes miss the quietness of falling snow or waking up in the morning to see everything coated with a fresh layer of the white stuff.

I am truly excited to get back to Wyoming (and Yellowstone) even though some of the Winter driving conditions will be hairy over mountain passes in Idaho, Montana, and Jackson, WY.

Although I have visited over a dozen countries and half of America there is no place I’ve ever been which I liked more than Wyoming.

What I Learned on My Vacation to the Real America explains it all.

Sadly, the Volkswagen Bus will be staying in San Francisco safe and snug in its garage (too valuable) but alternate transportation has been procured and (I hope) I’ll be able to master its on-the-road nuances in the ice and snow.

I will be publishing stories from the road (as WiFi is available) about the trip as well as any political events which permeate the cold, snow, and any potential frostbite I might have.

Having recently seen the movie The Grey I do hope wolves are not involved (or plane crashes) and that everything goes smoothly.

There will be a couple of “canned” articles (ObamaNation, for example) but most of the content will be fresh.

Since I’ll be writing from an Android tablet/netbook I’ll do my best regarding the formatting and uploading of pictures.

I hope the next two weeks will be a lot of fun and that you will enjoy following along.

See you again from the road!

Parking Downtown: Cheyenne vs. San Francisco

Upon arrival at our hotel in downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming I asked where I should park.  I was told either in front on the street until 10am or I could park around the corner in a public parking lot.  I was asked if my license plates were out of state or not and, upon replying that they were, was told...

    On the Road From Yellowstone

We made excellent time on our way to Yellowstone.  The weather was in our favor and fortunately it was smooth sailing (85-95 mph the whole way). I did this drive once in a VW Bus and while that was awesome it is best experienced only during warmer months.  Getting out into the wide open countryside...

Wacky Wednesday: Are SeaWorld Killer Whales Illegal Slaves?

Part of me wishes I was making this up but People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is suing SeaWorld for how its Killer Whales are being treated at three of its locations: The suit, filed in October 2011, asked that the court declare that the orcas are “held in slavery and/or involuntary...

The Magic of the Open Road (In a V8)

There is something special about taking a roadtrip in the United States.  Getting out onto the open road, seeing the country, taking in the sights.  Once you’re outside of the metropolitan areas you begin to realize just how sparsely populated America is.  Driving for an hour and only seeing...

San Francisco’s Parklets: Another Stupid Liberal Idea

I’ve lived in San Francisco since 1995 and, for part of that time, it’s been without a car.  I don’t mean I’ve been one of those hypocritical people who don’t own a car (and decry the internal combustion engine) but rents one for the weekends.  I mean without a car. Like...

    Newt’s Flame Out

Conspiracy theorists unite!  Some will say all of the negative press from The Druge Report the other day painting Newt in a negative light is responsible for his decline in the polls.
