Conspiracy theorists unite!  Some will say all of the negative press from The Druge Report the other day painting Newt in a negative light is responsible for his decline in the polls.

Drudge picks his favorites, that’s true, but few were disputing stories with titles like:

INSIDER: GINGRICH REPEATEDLY INSULTED REAGAN

R. EMMETT TYRRELL: William Jefferson Gingrich

NEWT FLASHBACK: REAGAN WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR NATIONAL ‘DECAY’

That’s not good press.  But is it “responsible” for Newt beginning to tank?

Newt is a one trick pony.  He zings the debate moderator, quotes Andrew Jackson, and throws accusations at his opponents then sits back and smiles.

But that’s all Newt can do.  He’s all about the negative not the positive and it’s a turn off.

Gingrich revealed himself to be a mile wide but an inch deep in last week’s debate.  Witness this exchange which badly backfired on him trying to hang the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac 1% label on Romney:

Newt: So maybe Governor Romney in the spirit of openness should tell us how much money he’s made off of how many households that have been foreclosed by his investments? And let’s be clear about that.

Mitt: And Mr. Speaker, I know that sounds like an enormous revelation, but have you checked your own investments? You also have investments through mutual funds that also invest in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

If you’re debating someone you should never ask a question to which you do not know the answer.  Newt is losing in the Florida polls against Romney and knows he’s only a few poor showings away from being done so go big or go home.

Newt threw a Hail Mary pass and it got intercepted.

Newt is about Newt and he is really not much more complex than that.  In politics this isn’t abnormal but you have to have a wide range of skills to bring to the table and Gingrich doesn’t appear to have that.

Parking Downtown: Cheyenne vs. San Francisco

Upon arrival at our hotel in downtown Cheyenne, Wyoming I asked where I should park.  I was told either in front on the street until 10am or I could park around the corner in a public parking lot.  I was asked if my license plates were out of state or not and, upon replying that they were, was told...

    On the Road From Yellowstone

We made excellent time on our way to Yellowstone.  The weather was in our favor and fortunately it was smooth sailing (85-95 mph the whole way). I did this drive once in a VW Bus and while that was awesome it is best experienced only during warmer months.  Getting out into the wide open countryside...

Wacky Wednesday: Are SeaWorld Killer Whales Illegal Slaves?

Part of me wishes I was making this up but People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is suing SeaWorld for how its Killer Whales are being treated at three of its locations: The suit, filed in October 2011, asked that the court declare that the orcas are “held in slavery and/or involuntary...

The Magic of the Open Road (In a V8)

There is something special about taking a roadtrip in the United States.  Getting out onto the open road, seeing the country, taking in the sights.  Once you’re outside of the metropolitan areas you begin to realize just how sparsely populated America is.  Driving for an hour and only seeing...

San Francisco’s Parklets: Another Stupid Liberal Idea

I’ve lived in San Francisco since 1995 and, for part of that time, it’s been without a car.  I don’t mean I’ve been one of those hypocritical people who don’t own a car (and decry the internal combustion engine) but rents one for the weekends.  I mean without a car. Like...
