Vice President Joe Biden on the Taliban: Not Our Enemy (Per Se)

Peace in our time!

More dangerous (and stupid) thinking going on under the Obama administration in Washington, D.C. including this absurd statement by Vice President Joe Biden:

Look, the Taliban per se is not our enemy. That’s critical. There is not a single statement that the president has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy because it threatens U.S. interests. If, in fact, the Taliban is able to collapse the existing government, which is cooperating with us in keeping the bad guys from being able to do damage to us, then that becomes a problem for us.

Of course, the Taliban only took Osama bin Laden in and tolerated his terrorist group, al Qaeda, giving them safe haven when no other country, including Sudan, would allow them to stay within their borders.

Need we remind our audience that without Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda there would have been no September 11th terrorist attacks which murdered over 3,000 people.

All of this comes on the heels of “peace talks” with the Taliban.  According to Reuters:

After 10 months of secret dialogue with Afghanistan’s Taliban insurgents, senior U.S. officials say the talks have reached a critical juncture and they will soon know whether a breakthrough is possible, leading to peace talks whose ultimate goal is to end the Afghan war.

Reuters, of course, would prefer to cast things in terms of making peace with a terrorist/mass killing organization:

Failure would likely condemn Afghanistan to continued conflict, perhaps even civil war, after NATO troops finish turning security over to Karzai’s weak government by the end of 2014.

Success would mean a political end to the war and the possibility that parts of the Taliban – some hardliners seem likely to reject the talks – could be reconciled.

Why is this “reconciliation” effort going on?  Because Obama wants to end the Afghanistan war and he thinks, like Nelville Chamberlain, that a few signatures on a piece of paper will ensure this.

It won’t.

The Taliban are driven by religious zealotry and are likely just playing along until American forces leave at which point they will being murdering people who listen to the radio, refuse to grow beards, girls who learn to read (or teach them to read) again.

But Obama wants peace so badly he’ll do almost anything for it… including “negotiate” with a Fake Taliban.  It was a year ago that Fake Taliban Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour negotiated with high level NATO officials before being exposed as a money hungry fraud.

And back in 2009 Obama tried to negotiate with the Taliban when Hillary Clinton said that those Taliban “who abandoned extremism must be granted an ‘honorable form of reconciliation.'”

The response that came back from Zabihullah Mujahid was:

This matter was also raised in the past.  They have to go and find the moderate Taliban, their leader and speak to them. This is a lunatic idea.

The war against Islamic terrorism is multi-generational… they are prepared for it, we are not ergo victory will not be ours.

  1. That’s the most asinine statement I believe I have ever heard come out of Biden’s mouth. The Taliban is not our enemy? What rock has he been hiding under?

Look, I really do wish there was a way to properly negotiate with the Taliban. I wish we could trust them to stop the killings they do in the name of their religious intolerance. Trouble is, they don’t like us and are not likely to adhere to any agreement they sign. All they want is us gone and they will begin to encroach upon the agreement. Our government is naive to think otherwise.

  2. A “peace” treaty signed by the Taliban will just be an instrument they will use to accomplish their goals. They will use it as a tool to induce us to leave and once we do all bets are off.
I agree with Larry, this is the most asinine statement to come out of Joe Biden’s mouth, and that is really saying something.

  3. “Moderate Taliban” — LOL! I’ll say this, though: Our enemy is not Taliban per se. Our enemy is political Islam, which is larger than Taliban.

  5. Biden id a real gOOb.

Politics are like clothing trends: thin ties, fat ties, thin ties. Small lapels, big lapels, small lapels. Flat tops, long hair, crew cuts. Mini skirts, long skirts, short skirts. Board shorts, short shorts, board shorts.
No under wear, under wear, no under wear.

Then we Osama, Noriega, Saddam, Hosni, Gaddafi, Taliban, etc, etc … every twenty years it is all over again. You can see 100 year trends in morality as well.

We will be okay because we push back and the pendulum always swings. I have a lot of confidence in the millenium generation. My 21 and 24 year old girls get it. They are mad as hell at Congress and think the electoral college sucks, but they have work ethic, work within their communities to make life better. They will rescue this country over the next 25 years with our input.

  6. Once again it would appear that Biden’s brain tumor, in remission these many years, is finally active again.

Biden is nothing more a bag man for Obama’s semantics where there is an explanation or proclamation for every cause and effect based of course on the Obama administration’s fantasy reality….WM
