San Francisco (Now New York) Liberals Move to Ban Happy Meal Toys

Would Mayor McCheese approve?

Remember, it’s not up to the parents it’s up to the State:

Toys that have been synonymous with kids’ meals at fast-food restaurants could soon be banned in San Francisco under a new law proposed Tuesday if the food contains too much fat, sugar or salt.

The reasoning by Liberals in San Francisco (if they possess this ability) is that if McDonalds wants to continue to force parents to bring their kids to their restaurants to eat they’ll serve tofu or veggie burgers or maybe just give them some uncooked corn so they can give away toys (it would be good for their teeth).

We all know that parents just shouldn’t have the responsibility of deciding what Junior eats so the State must somehow give them “encouragement” by saying: Fries or Toys but not both!

Places like McDonalds can have their toys to give away if they change their fast food ways and make the meals healthy.

We all know it was the Big Mac and the Whopper that caused the Roman Empire to fall (and you thought it was Government corruption – ha!).

The proposal isn’t law – yet – in San Francisco but there is a very good chance it might become law knowing the elected officials who vote on these sorts of things.

According to the article in the San Francisco Comical the Happy Meal (or equivalent) must meet these requirements:

– More than 200 calories for a single item or more than 600 calories for a meal. (A typical fast food hamburger has at least 250 calories, according to McDonald’s and Burger King nutritional websites.)

– More than 480 milligrams of sodium for a single item or 640 milligrams for a meal. (A typical fast-food hamburger has 520 milligrams of sodium.)

– More than 35 percent of its calories derived from fat, unless the fat is contained in nuts, seeds or nut butters, or from a packaged egg or packaged low-fat or reduced-fat cheese.

– More than 10 percent of its calories derived from saturated fats, with the exception of nuts, seeds, packaged eggs or packaged low-fat or reduced-fat cheese.

– More than 0.5 grams of trans fat.

– Meals must include at least a half-cup of fruit and three-quarters of a cup of vegetables.

– A beverage may not have more than 35 percent of its calories fat-based or more than 10 percent of its calories sugar-based.

If parents think that feeding their kid McDonalds all the time is healthy or if Liberals think taking the Hamburgler away from Johnny is going to discourage him wanting fries then everyone involved is so stupid they should be ruled by Mayor McCheese.

Now, New York City may be doing the same thing as San Francisco:

[New York City Councilman Leroy] Comrie planned to introduce his own bill Wednesday that would essentially rewrite what could currently be considered a “Happy Meal.” The bill would require establishments that offer toys with food make sure the meals are 500 calories or less and have low fat and low sodium totals.

Penalties would be steep: between $200 to $2,500 for repeat restaurant offenders who use toys to sell unhealthy meals.

Makes one want to Grimace, doesn’t it?
