Liberals Against the Ropes Go Where They Know

He shouldn't rest so easy.

Petula Clark sang:

When you’re alone
And life is making you lonely,
You can always go downtown
When you’ve got worries,
All the noise and the hurry
Seems to help, I know, downtown

Down in the polls, even though they are in control of government, Liberals are going not downtown but instead they are playing one group against another and they are calling in all of their allies to help turn the tide.

We have seen numerous videos about SEIU members beating down town hall attendees, the NAACP has gone out and said the Tea Party harbors racists (though the NAACP has videos of Louis Farrakhan preaching anti-white diatribe on their website), journalists are beating the drum to support Obama’s Socialist healthcare/taxation/environmental policies, and Liberals everywhere are starting fake Tea Party websites to infiltrate gatherings of concerned citizens with people holding up racist signs and other repugnant things.  And the “media” is choosing what to ignore and what to “report.”  Were John Edwards or Al Gore members of the Republican Party they would have been treated by the press the same way Larry “Wide Stance” Craig was.

Back in April, Capitol Commentary wrote about Jason Levin who started CrashtheTeaParty.org (the website is now gone) who tried his best to discredit the Tea Party using any methods.  Capitol Commentary managed to get his mission statement from his website (pictured to the left).

Telegraph writer Janet Daley sums it up best:

For America has learned, thanks to Barack Obama’s crash course in European-style government, about the titanic force of class differences. The president’s determination to transform the US into a social democracy, complete with a centrally run healthcare programme and a redistributive tax system, has collided rather magnificently with America’s history as a nation of displaced people who were prepared to risk their futures on a bid to be free from the power of the state.

What is more startling is the growth in America of precisely the sort of political alignment which we have known for many years in Britain: an electoral alliance of the educated, self-consciously (or self-deceivingly, depending on your point of view) “enlightened” class with the poor and deprived.

Liberal politics is now – over there as much as here – a form of social snobbery. To express concern about mass immigration, or reservations about the Obama healthcare plan, is unacceptable in bien-pensant circles because this is simply not the way educated people are supposed to think. It follows that those who do think (and talk) this way are small-minded bigots, rednecks, oiks, or whatever your local code word is for “not the right sort”.

Call it the last stand of the Old America.  By “Old America” I mean the heritage of our country which distrusts government, thinks government creates more problems than it solves, and people who believe that hardwork is what gets people ahead in life, not entitlement programs.  Make no mistake about it, there is a war going on out there.  It is being waged on the one side by Liberals using their special interest groups and media buddies to push there message – play up Obamakare, play down the Gulf Oil Spill… play up the evils of Wall Street and play down the will of the voters in places like Arizona that want control over their border with Mexico.

The players on the Democratic side are very well funded and well organized however they seem to have been thrown into disarray now that their plan is not going according to schedule.

It was supposed to be so easy… keep control of the House, take the Senate, White House, and Supreme Court, pass socialized medicine, open the borders, pass environmental taxes like Cap and Trade,  kill off domestic oil exploration, implement the Value Added Tax to pay for healthcare, reintroduce the Death Tax 10% higher than what it was,  raise taxes on the wealthy so as to pay for all of their Big Government plans, and give Big Labor Card Check so nobody could have a secret ballot thus increasing the size of unions which have been on the decline for decades.

What happened?

Thanks largely to the internet, Americans opposed to people like President Obama and his ilk, Americans are talking to one another, organizing, spreading information, shining light into the dark corners of the Left and writing about what they have learned.  The message is getting out there although it is taking a long time because there is no real central leadership.  We have seen Liberal newspaper and news organizations suffer from declining viewership and circulation (Newsweek is being sold off, for example), Obama is plunging in his approval ratings having lost the crucial “swing” voters who realize they made a terrible mistake voting for someone who only had vapid slogans instead of popular ideas on which to govern.  Liberals are falling in elections across the country and the November election looks like it’s going to majorly re-align politics in Washington.  Whether Democrats are thrown out for more than two years lies in the hands of Republicans and in whether or not President Obama will continue to rub Americans the wrong way or not.

But the forces against those who distrust Big Government have not won anything yet.  They are going to say that they did not create this mess and that if the other side wins things will go back to being “unfair.”  President Obama has already given up trying to say that the House will stay in the hands of his party and instead he is trying to form a firebreak around 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue by calling Republicans “obstructionists.”

Obama isn’t getting the same kind of belief FDR did.

FDR’s treasury secretary Henry Morgenthau remarked in 1939 after wasting almost as much taxpayer money on “stimulus” as Obama has:

We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. We have just as much unemployment as when we started. … And an enormous debt to boot!

Republican president Herbert Hoover started the U.S. down the road to depression but it was FDR’s policies which turned a recession into a Great Depression that required a world war to generate American recovery.

Americans believed then, as many do now, that FDR’s “stimulus” is what saved the country.  Today, in 2010, it appears that the Democrats Myth Making machine is not nearly as successful:

More than 6 in 10 American voters think the economy would be in the same or better shape if Congress hadn’t passed the economic stimulus bill, while a small minority thinks things would be worse without it.

If Congress had done nothing, the largest number of voters — 43 percent — say the economy would be in about the same shape as it is today. Another 22 percent think the economy would be in better shape without the stimulus plan. About a third — 31 percent — thinks the stimulus bill helped and the nation’s economy would be in worse shape without it.

Just because the Democrats are on the ropes – for now – and just because the truth about their allies is getting out there doesn’t mean the Republicans should simply be handed a free ride by those who oppose Obama.  The same tired ideas are likely to be trotted out by Republican candidates like Romney and Huckabee in an effort to sell themselves on possessing the cure to what ails America.  The Bush years were somewhat destructive to America due mainly to his heavy spending and strong security policy – not to mention waging a “preemptive” war in Iraq – and Obama has been quite adept in splitting the fissures more by turning traditional Democratic interests against everyone else.

The worst case scenario for America.

The genie cannot be put back into the bottle and the rise of social divisiveness – taxation, immigration, energy policy, healthcare, debt – are going to reverberate through the layers of our society for some time.  We will not be able to return to the “good old days” and, instead, are likely to see these battles play out over the next decade.

The best case scenario is that we return to a nation of pay-as-you-go with a smaller government with the worst case scenario being social anarchy as outlined in this article featured on Capitol Commentary back in February of 2009.

These problems have been brewing for decades and it is not fair to lay them at the feet of one political party or the other but we are facing problems which, in the end, have claimed the lives of all kingdoms/empires/nations.

  • The map is really interesting, but I don’t think folks in the South will allow Mexico to take over.
Matthew recently posted..Altogether now- Bush was right

    • The argument for Mexico taking over the South is that, on its own, Texas and the surrounding states may not possess enough resources to survive if the other parts of the country turn against them and thus they must join, or ally, themselves with Mexico.

San Francisco’s Parklets: Another Stupid Liberal Idea

I’ve lived in San Francisco since 1995 and, for part of that time, it’s been without a car.  I don’t mean I’ve been one of those hypocritical people who don’t own a car (and decry the internal combustion engine) but rents one for the weekends.  I mean without a car. Like...
