Senator Obama vs. President Obama
This story reminds me of a Monkees song:
You always say you like my style.
You say I’m tough and kind of wild.
Am I too much for you to tame?
I swear this time it’s not a game.
That was then, this is now.
That was then, this is now.
Back when Barack Obama was but 1 of 100 he said this:
“The TANF program affects millions of American children and families and deserves a full and fair debate. Under the rules, the reconciliation process does not permit that debate. Reconciliation is therefore the wrong place for policy changes and the wrong place for the proposed changes to the TANF program. In short, the reconciliation process appears to have lost its proper meaning. A vehicle designed for deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility has been hijacked to facilitate reckless deficits and unsustainable debt.”
Now, the uber Democrat says this:
“Reform has already passed the House with a majority. It has already passed the Senate with a supermajority of sixty votes. And now it deserves the same kind of up-or-down vote that was cast on welfare reform, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, COBRA health coverage for the unemployed, and both Bush tax cuts – all of which had to pass Congress with nothing more than a simple majority.”

Harrison, you should know by now that we only debate the issues that Dr.O wants to debate. Just lay down and let him trample you on the way to Socialism.
I didn’t think he was a Senator long enough to make a speech before running for president. This MUST have been difficult to find.

At the Sept. 25, 2007, “Change to Win” convention, Mr. Obama called health insurance reform “an area where we’re going to have to have a 60 percent majority in the Senate and the House in order to actually get a bill to my desk. We’re going to have to have a majority to get the bill to my desk, that is not just a 50-plus-one majority.”
Next, in an interview with the editorial board of the Concord Monitor during the 2007 primary campaign, Mr. Obama said, “Maybe you eke out a victory with 50-plus-one, but you can’t govern. You know you get Air Force One, I mean there are a lot of nice perks (laughter), but you can’t deliver on health, we’re not gonna pass universal health care with a 50-plus-one strategy.”

Interesting find! You know, he’s not the first “leader” to move the goal posts but healthcare is such a large part of the economy and people’s lives that it’s not the same as the Spotted Owl.

This, I imagine, is why Obama never has press conferences, and why he resorted to insults and condescension at the health care “debate.”

Did anybody actually believe that he would do everything he said. Unless he amends the constitution to allow a 10 term limit for the president (which I would not put past him), his promises are impossible to fulfill. Didn’t he also say he wasn’t going to hire lobbyists, and he would send any bill back that contained earmarks?
