Oh, the Irony: Reagan on the $50 Bill

There is a movement to slap Ronald Reagan’s name on a public building in all 50 states (the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project).  You have Washington’s Nation Airport, now Reagan National Airport and the Ronald Reagan Building, also in Washington.  These two examples are rather ironic as Reagan fired striking air traffic controllers and because the other building was the most expensive Federal building ever constructed, coming in at a svelte $768 million.

Now there is a move by some Republicans to remove Ulysses S. Grant from the $50 bill and replace it with Reagan’s image.  Over the years there have been attempts to place Reagan’s likeness on the $10 bill, the $20 bill, the $50 bill (back in 2005 for the first time), as well as to create a coin for him or bump a current president from the nickel and the dime.

It seems as though nobody will be happy.  Many Southerners dislike Grant for his role in ending the Civil War while removing another president such as Hamilton, Jefferson, or Washington wouldn’t fly.

Of course, at the rate President Obama is printing (and spending) our money Republicans might want to consider talking to Parker Brothers to have Reagan’s image applied to Monopoly Money as that’s what our currency will likely be worth in the coming years.
