You might want to spell check your headline. :)

I don't really buy in to the Republican's newly found conservatism and unity. I still think they are just posturing at this point as the majority of them are all RINO's. Given that every freakin' thing coming from the Dems is horrible - it is very easy for the Republicans to just sit on the sidelines and ride the tide out and vote no on everything and look good.

The biggest mistake they continue to make however is that they forget to remind the rest of the public that the Democrats have the supermajority and don't need them anyway. Everything that comes from Congress is 100% owned by the Democrats. Life or death of their careers and party are within their own hands.

I'm with jd. It's Damn the Torpedoes. With control of the Hill and the Oval Office, the Democrats, quite rightly, believe this is their best opportunity to "fudamentally transform" America, in the President's own words.

As for the Democrats ignoring the will of the voters with respect to this being a representative republic: the only opinion polls that matter take place every other November. Elections have consequences.

i think the first theory is more apt. they will try to ram this through, and if it fails, it fails. blame the republicans (again. although it is important to note that it's the non-republicans holding the vote back).

and if they succeed, they will claim victory, even if their predisessors (sp) scrap their work and begin again. the left will claim they got the ball rolling.

and it won't matter if many members of the left lose their jobs. most of them are incredibly wealthy (e.g. peolosi), and would rather go down swinging. most could readily pick up jobs at any university.
