Obama Creates "Green" Jobs w/Stimulus Money – Overseas

Once again common sense shows why governments should not be “investing” taxpayer monies in these kinds of schemes, and why the $787 billion “stimulus” package Obama signed into law was just more government waste and Liberal pipe dreams:

More than eight out of 10 US stimulus dollars spent on wind energy farms have gone to foreign companies, according to a report by the Washington-based Investigative Report Workshop, a non-profit journalist group.

Of the $1.05bn handed out in grants so far – the majority since August – 84 per cent has gone to European companies, with the US subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewables, the Spanish company, taking the largest share.

It doesn’t feel too great to know that our money went to foreign companies however “Buy American” programs rarely work anyway.  What really rankles me is this:

The 11 US-based wind farms that received cash grants from the US Treasury have imported 695 of the 982 wind turbines that are to be installed. Since the manufacture of turbines is by far the largest employment generator in wind energy, it is estimated to have created 4,500 jobs overseas – far in excess of the jobs created in the US from these grants.

AP cited several examples, including that of a company working with the Federal Communications Commission, which the Obama administration said created 4,231 jobs, but that AP said had only resulted in 1,000 new positions. The White House said the agency had exaggerated its findings and had analysed only 2 per cent of stimulus spending. “This story draws misleading conclusions from a handful of examples,” said the White House.

What is most ironic is the Obama administration claims this money stayed in America but, in reality, the opposite is true.  So many people may say: “Let’s build up American “green energy” jobs so this doesn’t happen.”

The problem with this mentality is that wind power is often the most expensive form of energy that can be harnesed.  Not only is it very expensive but it cannot be relied upon.  Advanced societies require when you throw a light switch the light comes on or when you pick up the phone there’s a dial tone.  How does wind power get generated when there’s no wind?  Exactly… it doesn’t.  Just check out the various costs of generating power:

 I’m not saying that solar power is evil and should not be used in certain situations to suppliment existing power supplies (for homes, businesses, etc…) but it should not be subsidized by taxpayers.  If homeowners want to make themselves feel “green” by installing solar or if they will save money on their electricity bills over the long run, fine, but don’t make me pay so someone else can reduce their monthly bills for running televisions, electric ovens, etc…

What this story highlights is the insane U.S. taxpayer dollar giveaway being conducted so Liberals can feel good about “helping the planet.”
