The novel State of Fear covers this topic well. It's also foolish to believe we can control or predict Nature. It's never been done successfully.

@ vulcanhammer I don't disagree with you all that much. There are only so many ways to get things moving and fear is usually a dependable motivator. Trouble is, the proof is in a pudding that won't be baked for another 20-30 years, requiring a leap of faith that for many is just too much when there are more immediate issues.

@Harrison Not all greenhouse gases are created equal. A little bit of CO2 goes a long way. A littler bit of methane goes an even longer way. This is Science 101. We know we have dumped a s*tload of CO2 into the atmosphere as a result of machines. It is foolhardy to think that it won't change SOMETHING.

Nothing is settled. Different gases have different abilities to trap and/or retain heat. For example:

Based on concentrations (ppb) adjusted for heat retention characteristics Percent of Total Percent of Total --adjusted for water vapor
Water vapor ----- 95.000%
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 72.369% 3.618%
Methane (CH4) 7.100% 0.360%
Nitrous oxide (N2O) 19.000% 0.950%
CFC's (and other misc. gases) 1.432% 0.072%
Total 100.000% 100.000%

THEN take into account man's "contribution" towards CO2 is a whopping 0.117%.

Water vapor is the BEST trapper and holder of heat, not CO2.
