Lest we think people are being “uncivil” towards President Obama let’s look at some earlier protest signs (maybe they are all racists??):

  • My friend, you are a racist and distort the truth, shame on you.

  • Point taken. I like the “same shit, different asshole” one myself. I have seen people go at each other with 2×4′s at the height of the Vietnam protests, so a few signs are no biggie. I suspect you could look back in history and find even uglier stuff. I guess we all live in glass houses to some extent.

  • But are’t these people just expressing their freedom of speech, as Hannity or Rush might say? Aren’t these people the patriots of America who love their country so much?

  • Obama is quick to distance himself from race when it comes to him. I think the closest he came to it was Henry Louis Gates, Jr. To his credit, Obama did say many times he didn’t think race was the reason people disagree with him. However, regarding passing the buck I think you are correct.

  • All those pictures are fake. Obama is the first president ever to be criticized.

  • I never understood the whole Hitler comparison to either Bush or Obama. I mean, until he decides that he wants to round up a certain ethnic group in his country and kill them, lets lay off the Hitler comments, eh?

    • The whole nationalism/totalitarianism thing. But I bet most people don’t know Adolf wasn’t really a Socialist even though his party was the National Socialist German Worker’s Party.

  • Would you all agree that our President deserves our respect? We can disagree with his policies but not go as far as to say that he is the “rebirth of Hitler” or that “we should have buried him with JFK”. Showing discontent with our President’s policies is very different from making the mentioned statements.

    • The President does not necessarily deserve our respect but the Office of the Presidency does.

      • If the office deserves respect, the person holding the office deserves respect as well. Any human in a sense deserves a level of respect. Not meaning opposition, even on a personal level, is wrong. Once again, not liking or even despising our President is very different to wishing or wanting him dead, something that can even be denounced as unpatriotic.

        • Obama has not earned my respect. I do not wish him personal ill I just want his term to be over so we can get a qualified candidate.

          • I agree. Allow me to make myself clearer. Because he is our President we must be respectful but not necessarily give him our respect, as you have mention, Obama as well as anyone else must earn that.
