Joe Wilson - Racist or just rude?
Many Democrats, including our “distinguished” former President Jimmy Carter, have been playing the race card quite a lot over the previous few weeks. Every time Obama gets in trouble “racism” is trotted out for a test drive in the hopes that some people will buy it. A sucker is born every minute so there have to be some takers. During the State of the Union Rep. Joe Wilson yelled “liar” when Obama said illegal immigrants wouldn’t be provided Obamakare.

Mark Tapscott discovers a nugget in the analysis provided by the Congressional Research Office on HR3200, the House version of ObamaCare coming to the floor. While Barack Obama insists that the idea that ObamaCare will cover illegal immigrants is a “myth,” the CRS points out that the bill does nothing to prevent it. Since HR3200 doesn’t require people to establish citizenship or legal residency before applying to exchanges for health insurance, including the public option, taxpayer money will certainly flow to illegal immigrants[.]
We can’t have people saying bad things about Obama though, can we, without them being called racists? What is interesting is Obama has repeatedly played down, through spokepeople, others saying his critics are racists. But that’s just not good enough, is it?
Here’s the latest nugget to be dug up about Wilson:
Joe also has been a member of the Columbia World Affairs Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sinclair Lodge 154, Jamil Temple, Woodmen of the World, Sons of Confederate Veterans, ….
This is an organization that, as the SPLC has detailed assiduously, has been taken over in the past decade by radical neo-Confederates who favor secession and defend slavery as a benign institution. Leading the takeover is a radical racist who’s been an important legal figure on the far right for some years.
Does attending his church for years make Obama racist?
Obviously the man must be a racist because of the memberships he may have, right? Read on:
Experts say the divisions within the Sons vary between two extremes. On one side are the traditionalists, members who focus on cleaning up Confederate grave sites and conducting Civil War re-enactments.
On the other side are the so-called Lunatics, up to 2,000 members who deride traditionalists as “grannies” and belong to camps named after notorious Southern figures such as John Wilkes Booth and Jesse James.
“The problem is it’s supposed to be a patriotic organization,” says Hilderman, 59. “You are either that or you let guys in who want to secede.”

So inquiring minds want to know:
Is Joe Wilson still a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
If so, does he condone the activities of the “Lunatic” faction that now controls the SCV?
Does Joe Wilson consider the Republican Party “the Party of Lincoln”?
Does Joe Wilson support secession?
Many Liberals are ready to torch Joe Wilson over these allegations (and use him as a “lesson” towards others who would question Obama’s performance). Fine, let’s ask Liberals this question then:
Because Barack Obama sat in Rev. Wright’s church for many years and listened to his tirades against white people and because he hired Van Jones to work in the White House and that man said white people were poisoning black communities with environmental hazards does that make Obama a racist?
After all, if Liberals can call Wilson a racist based on the beliefs of some people who may have been a part of an organization he may have been a member of how is this different from a man who was a member of a congregation led by a man with racist tendancies and who hired a man who expoused racist beliefs?
I do not personally consider Obama or Wilson to be a racist though I have no proof of that. I think Obama used people for political gain the way anybody who becomes president has done and Wilson, while his outburst was very rude, was correct in his statement.
Either way, Liberals will try and use race to silence critics because the facts aren’t doing it.

Good grief. Carter again. That guy needs to focus on humanitarian efforts — he excels at those and is absolutely dreadful when he pops off about politics.
At any rate, claiming Obama’s memberships should be viewed as critically as Wilson’s likely won’t wash. After all, Obama is one of the “good guys” who can do no wrong, whereas Wilson is one of those uneducated rubes who is simply to stupid to understand the brilliant vision presented by Herr Obama.
It’s politics as usual, I’m afraid — tear down the opposition by any means necessary and never, never look down the barrel of your own hypocrisy. Sickening, no?

Hans, sometimes you make good points and are fun to argue with. Your comment here doesn’t make any sense. If you honestly believe that raving mobs of conservatives are going storm the streets of Salt Lake City, then you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

I knew that eventually the race card was going to be played by liberals once any criticism was leveled on Obama. And right on cue, we have Carter and Pelosi attempting to quash any dissent. They tried labeling town hall protesters as kooks on the fringe, that didn’t work, so now they try the nuclear option: that might not work either.

Great Posts..Very Valid points..It’s unfortunate and counterproductive to use race as a way to silence debate..
Eventually there true colors will show..They know there losing support fast so they need to cram these, health care is one of them, things through before the lies they told surface completely..

of course you leave out the fact tht Wilson, like a petulant little child, yelled “you lie” at a time that was completely inappropriate and incredibly unsuitable for a so called ‘statesman’.
You also failed to mention Wilson’s love affair with the uber racist and philanderer Strom Thurmand.
Wilson also said “you lie” to Essie Mae Washington-Williams when she announced the dead Thurmond was her father. Wilson was wrong then and he is wrong now.
Section 246 Proves Joe Wilson is a liar in addition to being a rude jackass. You on the right though are famously immune from those pesky little things called “FACTS”
P.S. Can you all come up with another catch phrase? “The race card” is so very lame and by complaining that you are a racist does not make your racism false.

Tim, I called Wilson’s remark “rude” (which it was) and did not condone it (so I didn’t “leave out the fact”). I did not know that Joe Wilson and Strom Thurmond were homo or bisexuals! Even if they were I fail to see how that would have anything to do with this issue. And you do rather conveniently omit the issue of whether Obama is a racist because of his Rev. Wright relationship (or Van Jones for that matter).
And as far as Joe Wilson being a “liar” himself I’m afraid you’re also wrong about this:
The question, as we all know, arises from the Wilson “You lie” outburst, and the core claim that notwithstanding specific bill language barring illegal immigrants from participating in the “exchange,” as a practical matter, there is no way of verifying the citizenship of applicants — which is the current state of play. Republicans say that then means illegal immigrants would end up being enrolled in plans — bill language or no bill language.
Today, for the first time as far as we know, the administration is backing a provision that would require proof of citizenship before someone could enroll in a plan selected on the exchange.
Here, the administration also concedes that hospitals would be compensated with public funds for the care of undocumented immigrants.

So Obama DID lie (as I said in my article) and Wilson, while rude, was correct (again, as I said).
