Marcus Gets Eaten and Parents Object

Ewe they killed a sheep?
Letting children make certain decisions on their own teaches them responsibility and about the consequences of their actions. Maybe as a result of this decision they will learn about hypocrisy:
A group of schoolchildren who reared a lamb from birth and named it Marcus has overridden objections by parents and rights activists and voted to send the animal to slaughter.
Marcus the six-month-old lamb has now been culled, the head teacher of the primary school in Kent confirmed on Monday, after the school’s council — a 14-member group of children aged 6 to 11 — voted 13-1 to have him killed.
The decision has provoked fury among animal-loving celebrities, animal and human rights campaigners and the parents of some of the children, and led to threats against Lydd primary school and its teachers, according to a member of staff.
Around 250 children at the school take part in a program designed to teach them about rearing and breeding animals.
The intention had been to buy pigs with the money raised from slaughtering Marcus, but those plans have been put on hold following the furor created by the lamb’s culling. The school said the program may now have to be stopped.
“It’s all up in the air,” said a member of staff. “There’s been so much pressure on us as a result of all this.”

A lesson that wasn't in their planner.
Somebody should tell Latte Liberals that part of rearing and breeding animals is usually the eating of those animals once they reach a certain age. After all, those expensive Prada handbags and leather-lines Mercedes-Benz seats don’t come from tofu fields but from animals.
According to the school:
“When we started the farm in spring 2009, the aim was to educate the children in all aspects of farming life and everything that implies,” the school said in a statement.
“The children have had a range of opportunities to discuss this issue, both in terms of the food cycle and the ethical aspect… It is important for everyone to move on from this issue, so the children can focus on their education.”
It seems instead of learning how farms work these children were instead taught a lesson in politics, hypocrisy, and big city Liberalism.
My favorite part of the story:
But opponents branded it heartless and cruel, with animal rights campaigners asking why Marcus could not have been used to teach the children about wool, and human rights campaigners worried about the emotional impact of Marcus’s death on the children.
What “emotional impact on the children”? They voted to slaughter Marcus so they could buy some pigs with the proceeds. Isn’t that how capitalism works… you make some money and reinvest it to make more money.
And here is another lesson the “activists” don’t want to learn:
Abbatoir owner Simon Leadbeater was given the job of killing the animal, which had been handreared by children at Lydd Primary School in Kent.
Some parents now say the death of the sheep has traumatised their children.
But Mr Leadbeater said time was vital when it came to killing the beast.
He said: “In six months’ time he would get bigger and become aggressive.
“It weighs about 60 kilos.
All it takes is one of the children to be playing with it and for something to happen. It could kill one of them. It’s a wild animal.”
It seems the children got a different lesson than the one that was intended.

Imagine that, liberals deciding that we don’t want to teach our children Capitalism. Why am I not surprised?

At least they aren’t sheepish about it.

Didn’t you post a while back about somewhere in the U.K. suggesting that lamb be eaten less, because these infernal beasts excessively emit methane? I say good riddance to Marcus, pigs are a lot more climate-friendly. They could have crafted a great lesson-plan about Marcus the sacrificial lamb, who had to be killed for contributing the destruction of our planet. If we can raise a generation of sheep-haters, that would be a very positive development for those of us who are losing sleep about our increasingly warm planet.

Yes it was an article about reducing the population of England by half and turning people into vegetarians to save the planet.

No one is described as a liberal here. Even the parents were against this. Were they all liberal too? Were all the parents that opposed liberal?

How many Conservative animal rights activists do you know? And not all the parents were against it. I don’t know of too many Liberal ranchers. I will admit maybe all the parents are not Liberals but I’d bet almost all are because this is the type of things they oppose.
