It’s no wonder Americans don’t know whom to believe in the Obamakare debate when the Obamakare namesake can’t even get the facts straight in his State of the Union speech on the subject:
In his speech to Congress last week, President Barack Obama attempted to sell a reform agenda by demonizing the private health-insurance industry, which many people love to hate. He opened the attack by asserting: “More and more Americans pay their premiums, only to discover that their insurance company has dropped their coverage when they get sick, or won’t pay the full cost of care. It happens every day.”
To highlight abusive practices, Mr. Obama referred to an Illinois man who “lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found he hadn’t reported gallstones that he didn’t even know about.” The president continued: “They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it.”
Although the president has used this example previously, his conclusion is contradicted by the transcript of a June 16 hearing on industry practices before the Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigation of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The deceased’s sister testified that the insurer reinstated her brother’s coverage following intervention by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. She testified that her brother received a prescribed stem-cell transplant within the desired three- to four-week “window of opportunity” from “one of the most renowned doctors in the whole world on the specific routine,” that the procedure “was extremely successful,” and that “it extended his life nearly three and a half years.”
The president’s second example was a Texas woman “about to get a double mastectomy when her insurance company canceled her policy because she forgot to declare a case of acne.” He said that “By the time she had her insurance reinstated, her breast cancer more than doubled in size.”
The woman’s testimony at the June 16 hearing confirms that her surgery was delayed several months. It also suggests that the dermatologist’s chart may have described her skin condition as precancerous, that the insurer also took issue with an apparent failure to disclose an earlier problem with an irregular heartbeat, and that she knowingly underreported her weight on the application.
These two cases are presumably among the most egregious identified by Congressional staffers’ analysis of 116,000 pages of documents from three large health insurers, which identified a total of about 20,000 rescissions from millions of policies issued by the insurers over a five-year period. Company representatives testified that less than one half of one percent of policies were rescinded (less than 0.1% for one of the companies).
One speech, two examples… both proven false in Congressional testimony. No wonder people don’t believe anything Obama says… and those who do believe him would do well to consider all of the “oversights” he’s made in his Obamakare speeches. These are but two examples, given during a president’s most important speech of the year.

Harrison, this an opinion article, not a fact-checking one, with an overall point of view. Every highschool student can write this, focussing on scoring points. But as Plato one said: Animadverto visum quam animadverto res!
I watched your peacefull ‘tea party’ in Washington DC. It was broadcasted on several stations around Europe. And yes, these people simple don’t know what Communism, Fascism, Stalinism etc. means. And it was a disgrace for the USA to see how the mobs, like in NAZI GERMANY TOOK the streets. Will history repeats itself again? I guess so when you hear what the people were saying (most of them could not speak one decent sentence in English). One person showed suddenly his machine gun with the words ‘maybe time for a civil war’.
Be proud about these mobs. They are going to make your country stronger. Exactly what Hitler promised. So, who are the fascist? The ignorant, undereducated, underdeveloped, insucere people of the Joint States of America. Ready to be manipulated.

Hans, the things Obama got wrong are facts, sorry. They were taken from Congressional testimony. And if a school child could write the article then why couldn’t Obama get his facts correct?
If you want to see what a Liberal protest looks like wait till the next G20 Summit.
I can look at any 2 million-person march and find a few ignorant people. If it helps you to draw your conclusions from a few hand-picked examples then who is being intellectually lazy?

Obama could recite the Declaration of Indepedence, Harrison, note for note, shake for shake and you would still say he got it wrong. I’m sure you are witing with baited breath for something terrible to happen at the G20. I pray that it does not.

I’m sure our president can read, as he has demonstrated throughout his time in office because he never goes without his teleprompter. You do not admit or even acknowledge that he did get the facts wrong.
And there are always very violent protests at any G20 summit. You will see firsthand how “peaceful” Liberal protests are when they come to your hometown shortly.

maybe Obama needs to vet his anecdotes at least as well has he vetted the position of Green Jobs Czar. He needs an anecdote czar – not to find ones that are infallible, but to simply make them up. Honestly, why use a real anecdote. The rhetorical purpose of the anecdote is to manipulate people with their emotions, so invent one that will really tug at the heartstrings. To try and ground his agenda in reality now, seems a little disingenuous from someone who gave us so much hopey-changey pathos driven fraudulence for so long. Seriously Mr. President, just invent your anecdotes next time, and no one can/will prove them wrong, because they’ll feel so good.
