Obama's al Qaeda Excuse

Time to get on the terrorism merry-go-round again.
With September 11th having recently passed people remember the attacks of 2001. Since President Obama is so big on blaming Bush for everything when the political heat gets too much (Iraq, Afghanistan, economy, automobile industry, GITMO, SDI, healthcare, Cap-and-Trade, Global Warming, etc…) were there to be another attack on America either domestically or internationally we will again hear the refrain of: “We have Bush to thank for this!”
The most likely excuse from Democrats will be
Bush made people “angry” at the United States and thus caused another attack.
This is the most easily believed lie. Liberals are very fond of saying how much of a “feel good” time Bill Clinton’s presidency was… everybody loved Bill and every body loved America. Why then were there six attacks on the United States during this time (Islamic radicals and Timothy McVeigh)?
The fact is, there have been numerous attacks against the United States over the years. There were dramatic ones like the 1983 Beirut U.S. embassy bombing that killed 63 (or the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut that killed 241), the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie in 1988, the hijacking of the Achille Lauro and murder of American Leon Kinghoffer in 1985, or of course the attacks of 2001 that killed over 3,000 people.
For a list of major terrorist attacks on America you may click here.
The fact is, if you read a book like The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright you will realize that the Islamic Extremists will find any reason to kill as long as it furthers their goals. A big reason Osama bin Laden uses to attack America and Americans is the occupation (allowed by a semi-corrupt Saudi Regime) of Islamic Holy Lands by non-Muslims (Americans). But before the Gulf War there weren’t any Americans in Saudi Arabia so the excuses then were different (Israel-Palestinian issues were popular). That’s the point… there will always be reasons.
People like Osama bin Laden are very adept at changing the meaning of the Koran to permit all sorts of behaviors that appear to be forbidden like Muslims drinking alcohol, killing innocent people, killing themselves as suicide bombers, etc… These people will always find something to legitimize their agenda.

Everybody loved Bill, including Osama bin Laden.
The September 11th attacks were planned years before George W. Bush ever took office or even considered running for president. The fact is, Bill Clinton never really responded with any resolve when America was challenged or attacked. The movie Blackhawk Down illustrates how a botched rescue mission resulted in a few American deaths and, with the coverage winding up on CNN Clinton withdrew our forces. This is what Osama bin Laden learned from this:
In bin Laden’s own words he said (I have put certain words in bold) :
Few days ago the news agencies had reported that the Defence Secretary of the Crusading Americans had said that “the explosion at Riyadh and Al-Khobar had taught him one lesson: that is not to withdraw when attacked by coward terrorists“.
We say to the Defence Secretary that his talk can induce a grieving mother to laughter! and shows the fears that had enshrined you all. Where was this false courage of yours when the explosion in Beirut took place on 1983 AD (1403 A.H). You were turned into scattered pits and pieces at that time; 241 mainly marines solders were killed. And where was this courage of yours when two explosions made you to leave Aden in lees than twenty four hours!
But your most disgraceful case was in Somalia; where- after vigorous propaganda about the power of the USA and its post cold war leadership of the new world order- you moved tens of thousands of international force, including twenty eight thousands American solders into Somalia. However, when tens of your solders were killed in minor battles and one American Pilot was dragged in the streets of Mogadishu you left the area carrying disappointment, humiliation, defeat and your dead with you. Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge , but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear. It was a pleasure for the “heart” of every Muslim and a remedy to the “chests” of believing nations to see you defeated in the three Islamic cities of Beirut , Aden and Mogadishu.

OBL correctly read the weaknesses of Democratic leadership.
Osama bin Laden is not stupid. While his organization probably had little to do with what happened in Somalia he did learn the lesson that Bill Clinton was all talk and no action. The U.S. gets a bloody nose and folds! Do you think it is a coincidence that our humiliation in Somalia happened in 1993 and al Qaeda launched successful attacks against this country in 1996, two in 1998, one in 2000, and the last in 2001?
Obviously the lesson was when a country allows themselves to be bullied there will be consequences.
The fact is, it is very difficult for an established Western democracy to conduct any military operations for any length of time anywhere in the world because the press will “report” and people will “decide.” We are already seeing Democrats pushing hard for Obama to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan. To his great credit, Obama has thus far not given in however because he is a Democrat he cannot hold out forever as his base will stop supporting him.
And the question Democrats don’t want to answer is what happens after we leave Afghanistan? Liberals mocked Bush’s statement that he’d rather we fight them over there than fight them here. Though the prospect might sound unsavory, Bush was correct. Clinton’s total withdraw from “fighting” Islamic terrorists seemed to have given the country peace but, as we have seen above, it only prolonged the time until the harvest which happened on 9-11.
There are bad people in the world who want us dead. They want our freedoms ended. They want women to become slaves and illiterate. They want gays to be stoned to death, men to have beards, music to be eliminated, movies to be destroyed, and only Islam to remain.
On this the 12th day of September we need to be mindful of the forces at work in the world and those things we as a society are prepared to do in order to defend our way of life.
Liberalism isn’t going to help us to achieve these goals.
And so I fear that the same seeds Bill Clinton planted from 1993 until 2001 are going to be sown again while Obama is in office and, when the next person takes over we will have a 9-11 redux.
You don’t believe me? Read your history… and not just from the last 25 years, either.

From Mark Steyn:
9/11 was bad news if you were enjoying the good life in a jihadist training camp in the Hindu Kush. But, over the long run, it was a useful lesson in the limits of western will.

I agree with you that we should not be too quick to blame the president for a terrorist attack, because there have been terrorist attacks under Reagan, under Clinton, and under Bush. But that means that the right should not be rushing to blame Obama for attacks that may occur during his administration. Because, as you say, there are elements in the world intent on attacking Americans no matter who is president, and no matter what we might try to do to prevent an attack.

However, we can blame Obama and the democrats for demoralizing the CIA, and especially the counterterrorism branches of our intelligence agencies. This process of demoralization will probably make future attacks easier for our enemies.
