The Race to Be Racists and the Democrats

Did people suddenly realize he wasn't white?

I read a variety of blogs weekly… some well known others not.  I have noticed the “racist” term being slung around quite a lot (interesting how when Obama won Iowa we didn’t hear about this subject) of late.  Seems that the more Obama’s numbers tank the louder the cries of “racism” are.  I’m sure Democrats thought they’d get some mileage out of the Henry Gates/Racism charge but with the black police chief and another black officer who was there saying “no” I guess they got shut down pretty fast.  But Obamaheads are still at it… trying very hard to shut people down.

The Joker poster is being called “racist.”  Nevermind that Obama is made to look exactly like Heath Ledger (and Jack Nicholson) from Batman and never mind that Obama, in the poster, is not trying to look like he’s white but, rather, like a clown.  Is he a Clownist instead?  This attempt at using race to silence people gets an “F” from me.

Next we have the healthcare debate… or, rather, the angry voter silence attempt.  The Left (including Nancy Pelosi) is trying very hard to make this a racial issue.  Not sure why, exactly.  Seems that people don’t want socialized medicine.  How is that racial especially when it will come down to Congress to get enough votes to send this to President Obama.  Back in 1992/1993 when President Bill Clinton put his wife, Hillary, in charge of delivering socialized medicine to all Americans and people had similar reactions why was the racist term not used?  Well, I can understand that I suppose but, at least, why not the sexist term?  Hillary Clinton is, after all, a woman, so why didn’t people scream “sexist” about it?  Why?  Because the idea was absurd then and it is absurd now except to those who would try and shut people up.  This one also gets an “F” from me.

I read a lot, in the past week, about the “Birther” issue.  At first I thought this was about abortion but it has to do with whether Obama was born in the USA or not.  People love the conspiracy theory… everything from who shot Kennedy to whether the US military shot down Flight 800.  Seems as though the original birth certificate for Obama was somehow lost.  Writer Andrew Sullivan takes a couple of terms, strings them together and comes up with this:

“The demographics tell the basic story: a black man is president and a large majority of white southerners cannot accept that, even in 2009,” writes conservative columnist Andrew Sullivan. “I hope the Secret Service is on alert. If we thought racial panic had ended with Obama’s election, the resilience of this story in key parts of the country is a helpful wake-up call.”

Anti-white or pro-pirate?

Of course this stuff is nothing more than slander without proof.  Are some people unhappy that Obama is black and president?  I’m sure they are.  Some people were unhappy that Kennedy was Catholic and president and others were unhappy that George W. Bush was “handed” the presidency by the Old White Man’s Council.  Some people will always be upset about something but does that make the entire thing racial?  No.  Again, another “F” on validity.

Let’s turn this around and look at John McCain’s run for the presidency.  He was born in the US military area of the Panama Canal.  Many questioned whether he was born in the USA because of this.  Was there at least one non-white person upset about this?  Probably.  Was that a racial issue?  Of course not.  It seems with McCain there was more of a reason even:

Senator McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936, an unincorporated U.S. territory at the time. While there is no dispute that McCain was and is a citizen of the United States, the Constitution requires that the President be a “natural-born citizen”. Birth in the Panama Canal Zone , or other U.S. territory, makes one a U.S. national and citizen, but not a natural-born citizen. Obama, on the other hand, was born in the U.S. proper (the state of Hawaii), and is therefore a natural-born citizen of the United States, as the Constitution requires.

Personally, I think people trying to use the “racist” term about anything related to Obama are just as much crackpots as those who think Obama wasn’t born in the USA.  Until evidence comes out that shows otherwise we must accept the facts.  But in trying to insert race into every discussion about Obama all these people are doing is trying to tear the country apart.  I have read hardly any incidents about race being used in the discussions of Obama.  In fact, the last time I can remember race playing an issue in a campaign was when Lee Atwater used the Willie Horton ad to hurt Dukakis on the crime issue.  Many people took the dark face of Willie Horton to mean “scary black man” and Atwater, before he died, said he regretted that, and there is no doubt that matters of religion and race have always played roles in any society, even if they are not out in the open, but I would instead point to just how much race has been jettisoned as an issue in America that it is instead now more about Liberals trying desperately to re-introduce it into the political discourse.

Obama will succeed or fail not because of his race but because of his leadership.  After all, he started his presidency with approval ratings of 65% and they have been dropping ever since.  People knew he was half-black when he was at 65% so what has changed?

Exactly… his policies.
