With more cars plugged into the grid and Cap and Trade making the cost of energy very expensive, you can bet that there will be a massive revolt against "green" schemes.

There was a study done... dust-to-dust... looked at all of the energy required to build a Prius vs. a Hummer. It had to do with the fact that much of a hybrid is produced worldwide and the parts are shipped everywhere (also the strip mining process needed to build the batteries) and then looking at how far the truck would drive before being scrapped vs. the Prius.

The study has been attacked from many greenies.

harrison-
i don't understand the prius bashing-while the battery issue is relevant to a point, where do you get the "It takes less energy to build a basic V6 pick-up truck that gets 17 MPG than it does to build a Prius that gets 50 MPG" notion from? isn't the energy saved differential made up in the lifetime of the hybrid? i haven't done the math (i ran out of fingers to count), but it seems like the prius would be the economical/environmental winner.

a few of my right-leaning friends have bought them. besides the excellent tax refund garnered, they all claim less time at the pump.

also, it's a prius. i don't see many people in them in the left hand lane (re: thin wheels).

spot on about the electric cars, by the way. i see numerous patent apps. for them at my job, and the technology is really not improving that much. as opposed to the hybrid/fuel cell technology.

Two months ago when I was in the Netherlands I rented this car (I rented in a certain categorie and they gave me this on)...nice car..))
In the Netherlands we pay 1.45 € a liter that is 5.40 € a gallon which makes 7.80 USD a gallon...and you are still complaining..))
Here in Turkey we pay around 1.30 € a liter with neighboring countries as main oil suppliers...
Regarding green energy, 5% of the eneregy in the Netherlands is green and by 2015 25%...and we have gas until 2030...the USA better hurry up with making responsible changes...really...
kindest
