Not Political – WordPress and Blogs

I would say that most of us who write blogs are not professional journalists nor are we programmers.  WordPress is a wonderful tool and there are tons of upgrades available for it from various plug-ins to widgets to themes.  One of the things I enjoy doing is visiting the websites of those people who are kind enough to visit and post a comment on my site.  I notice many different types of blogs from self-hosted (like this one) to free sites on WordPress or other places.

What I’d like to ask is what works for you on your blog?  I’ve been using a three column theme for some time now just because I found it gave me more room to post links and other things.  The theme I’m using now, Atahualpa, is pretty good though I wish I knew enough coding to change some things.

How much time do you spend “working” on your blog (aside from writing the articles) and what are some of the things you found worked or did not?

Do you think a lot of great blogs are held back because they are too cluttered or confusing to find articles?  What things do you wish you could add to your blog?

Finally, thanks to all who visit here and post their comments… they are greatly appreciated.

  • My day job is an ecommerce consultant. I have helped a lot of people figure out wordpress. The best theme I know of is Thesis. It is kind of like Atahualpa, in that it is customizable, but it isn’t as clunky. However, I think it is a theme you have to pay for.

  • I like your site… particularly the graphic at the top.

  • I started my blog to re-publish my columns. Later it had as aim to bring co-bloggers from Turkey, Greece, Armenia together…that worked for a while, especially with Armenian which is ‘at war’ with Turkey, so do the Greeks..((
Later it became more an informative blog, although with the EC widget we got a lot of hit-and-run ‘readers’.
I spent at least 1 hr a day at Internations and 1 a 2 hrs at Entrecard…too much time.

San Francisco’s Parklets: Another Stupid Liberal Idea

I’ve lived in San Francisco since 1995 and, for part of that time, it’s been without a car.  I don’t mean I’ve been one of those hypocritical people who don’t own a car (and decry the internal combustion engine) but rents one for the weekends.  I mean without a car. Like...
