Finally, Truth in Government (From Venezuela)
More honesty than I’ve seen from a government in a long time
Venezuela’s top prosecutor insisted Thursday that freedom of expression in Venezuela “must be limited” and proposed legislation that would slap additional restrictions on the country’s news media.
The new law would punish the owners of radio stations, television channels and newspapers that have attempted to “cause panic” and “disturb social peace,” Attorney General Luisa Ortega said.
It also would punish media owners who “manipulate the news with the purpose of transmitting a false perception of the facts.”
“Freedom of expression must be limited,” Ortega said.
Ortega urged lawmakers to consider her suggestions as they debate a bill that would punish as-yet-undefined “media crimes.” The National Assembly, which is controlled by allies of President Hugo Chavez, is expected to approve the measure in coming months.
Chavez denies that he intends to silence critics, saying his government fully respects freedom of expression.
Well, okay, not that last part… but no government is perfect.

Maybe Obama will invite Chavez to the white house for a beer.

Beer summit #2. But at this one they could discuss how to silence all opposing voices. Chavez could give Obama some tips and then they could discuss the anti-American book Chavez gave to Obama at that conference a while back. I’m sure Chavez has been waiting for Obama to turn in his book report on it. I wonder if Chavez is going to give Obama any more homework assignments when they meet again?

Chavez, like a good lefty Fascist, probably didn’t like the press revealing all sorts of criminal behavior that he can help himself from doing: Like giving Colombia’s Communist guerrillas (FARC) some $300 million, initiating power grabs of key industries, etc. My big question is how Chavez lovers like Senator Chris Dodd, Sean Penn, Code Pink, and House Democrats who have accepted discount oil from Venezuela and then distributed it in the U.S. to boost their own political fortunes: Joseph P. Kennedy II and Massachusetts Congressman Bill Delahunt have been very friendly with Venezuela’s oil company.
Sometimes, it’s what you don’t hear that is most revealing.

I just hope Danny Glover and Sean Penn can still be friends with Hugo when they visit again.
