The Religion of Global Warming for the Tofu Crowd

It all starts with the affectations of the "elites."

I found this article very interesting as it discusses the jihad being carried out by the global warmers which, in my opinion, barely conceals the contempt they feel for the “less evolved” crowd:

Ian Plimer has outraged the ayatollahs of purist environmentalism, the Torquemadas of the doctrine of global warming, and he seems to relish the damnation they heap on him.

Plimer, you see, is an unremitting critic of “anthropogenic global warming” — man-made climate change to you and me — and the current environmental orthodoxy that if we change our polluting ways, global warming can be reversed.

Purging humankind of its supposed sins of environmental degradation has become a religion with a fanatical and often intolerant priesthood, especially among the First World urban elites.

Plimer presents the proposition that anthropogenic global warming is little more than a con trick on the public perpetrated by fundamentalist environmentalists and callously adopted by politicians and government officials who love nothing more than an issue that causes public anxiety.

Much of the discussions going on about global warming seem to revolve around people’s behaviors… the cars they buy, the temperatures they keep their homes at, even things like drinking bottled water.  The elites who preach this new theology are often wealthy, take many vacations, own second homes, and have little connection to reality like getting parking tickets, waiting in line at the grocery store, or flying coach.  I’m thinking, of course, of people like Al Gore, Prince Charles, and just about anybody in Hollywood or Washington, D.C. who preach this stuff.

That is why Cap and Trade falls so nicely into this paradigm.  The elites think that if you tax something that they see as wasteful (a Chevy Suburban, for example) to the point where it hurts too much to buy it that people will choose, say, a Prius or a Volkswagen Jetta diesel instead thus they will become “enlightened” as to how they should be living.

A sign of sophistication or stupidity?

Elites often do not think things through thus they preach windmills and solar power without figuring out how people will be able to turn on their lights if the wind dies or the sun doesn’t shine.  In the case of solar, there are all kinds of advanced ways of storing/producing energy even when the sun doesn’t shine but the high cost of these things makes them economically unfeasable.  Elites are not concerned with these things as they will simply get the government to pay for them not bothering to connect the dots that it is the taxpayer who will be stuck with the bill or, as is in the case with Obama’s “stimulus” future generations of Americans having to pay off a massive debt to the Chinese.

It all reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine sees her wealthy boss eating a Snicker’s bar with a knife and fork and, thinking this shows a sophistication she does not have, imitates him.  By the end of the episode everybody is eating a Snicker’s bar with a knife and a fork.  Nobody stops to think that it is a stupid activity!

Poor and working class people have little time to worry about the CO2 concentrations of the atmosphere, they are worried about their jobs, their kids, following their sports teams, spending time with friends, and living their life.  Yet the “elites” think it is their place to worry about it for them to the extent that they want to try and radically change peoples’ lives.  Clean air and a safe food supply are something everybody should be working toward but forcing someone to eat organic tofu instead of a hamburger is going too far.  And so it is with the penalties Democrats are trying to place on people with regard to “global warming.”
