First Polar Bears, Now National Security

Whole lot of people.
In the 1970s we learned that the Earth was experiencing “global cooling” then we heard about “global warming” but that was replaced with “climate change” because in many places it hasn’t been that hot. Liberals tried to get us with cute pictures of polar bears (which if they caught you would tear you to shreds) but in the shifting landscape of fear and manipulation (gee sounds like what Democrats accused the Bush administration of doing) we hear from failed presidiential candidate John Kerry that unless we stop driving SUVs and pay massive taxes other countries won’t the U.S. military could get involved in some future battle in some place yet-to-be-determined:
Massive crop devastation, melting glaciers, water shortages, millions of displaced people — all of these will drag the US military into conflict if global climate change goes unchecked, a Senate panel was warned today.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, convened by Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, focused on what so far has received only modest attention in the climate change debate: the effect it is bound to have on national defense.
Let’s take a look at this for a moment. Google puts the world population at about 6.7 billion. Taking a look at the graph to the right it is pretty clear how the population has exploded in the previous 55 years. Part of this is the “green revolution” where, using fertilizer, mass production, and other innovations more and more food was produced, allowing for there to be more people. But if you look where the growth is coming from in terms of populations it is almost entirely in “developing” or 3rd World countries and, in Western countries, among the least educated segments of the population. Lots of things are happening but to say that we should tax CO2 emissions so as to hopefully affect the weather so there can be more people is absurd. There are too many people on earth already in places that can’t support them.
What is really the issue is the availability of finding sources of potable water. China is experiencing terrible water shortages and in most parts of the world where the population is exploding they are, too. Kerry’s “findings” supposedly say that the U.S. military will become drawn into more and more humanitarian missions and spark conflicts between countries. Already countries like China are trying to secure sources of oil (from countries that are actually willing to drill for it unlike the Obama administration). “Global warming” is just an excuse by the Democrats to get taxes passed that will raise the burden on all Americans through higher energy costs, food costs, and anything that takes cheap energy to produce (the expensive to produce energy gets taxpayer money, too).
The story continues:
“International conflicts over resources, due to migrants, and/or as a means of distraction are not only likely,” he added, “but likely to exacerbate the underlying climate change problem.”
Kerry, since he took the helm of the committee earlier this year, has made addressing climate change a top priority. Several specialists said today that elevating the security aspect will help garner the kind of support necessary to make the difficult changes in energy and other global policies to stabilize the climate.
What this is really about is trying to scare Americans into supporting Cap and Trade or some other scheme. Instead, the United States should be working to secure our energy needs by drilling for oil, building nuclear plants, and not getting involved in regional conflicts that do not involve us. Instead, this study simply shows how out of touch Democrats really are.
