Obama Backs Another Bush Idea (After Condemning It)
Will the Hope and Changers ever wise up that Obama campaigned on the “moral high ground” but, in fact, he’s just another politician? From the Associated Press:
Stymied by Congress so far, the White House is considering issuing an executive order to indefinitely imprison a small number of Guantanamo Bay detainees considered too dangerous to prosecute or release, two administration officials said Friday.
The administration also is considering asking Congress to pass new laws that would allow the indefinite detentions, the official said.
Did we hear cries of Joe Biden and Barack Obama using the U.S. Constitution as toilet paper as we did under George W. Bush? Of course not! I am in favor of this policy but what I take exception to is Mr. Hope and Change embracing the policies he decried while on the campaign trail that he said were morally wrong and made the United States look badly in the eyes of the world and helped to create more terrorists.
An interesting take on the matter from Black Agenda Radio on the matter (I disagree with some of it but the irony is sure tasty):

True to the title of the program they use the Bush/Obama detention subject to spin-off on an “America is evil” meme’.

There was never any disagreement that a few of the detainees at Guantanamo are dangerous people, and nobody has ever advocated releasing the most dangerous prisoners. The problem is that because the cases against these people were so poorly handled by the Bush administration, and particularly because these individuals were tortured, it is impossible for a subsequent administration to prosecute a number of them. So if there is a legal justification for continuing to hold them as prisoners of war, the Obama administration may have to do that. I’m not sure that Obama the candidate ever promised that every single one of the detainees would either be prosecuted or released. He just said that Guantanamo would be closed. So after review of the cases, it appears that most will either be prosecuted or released to other countries, but a few will have to be held for some additional period of time without charges being filed. If they have the legal status of prisoners of war, they can be held until the cessation of hostilities only. Of course that could be a long time.
The clear difference between the two administrations is that the Obama administration will proceed according to law, while the Bush administration policies regarding treatment of these detainees were repeatedly held unlawful, in part by the Supreme Court, and also by the Bush administration’s own repudiation of its own legal opinions. So we hope and changers can still say consistently that the Bush administration acted unlawfully, but the Obama administration will be held to a higher standard.

Joe, I’m afraid you bought into the talking points hook, line, and sinker. If you’re so motivated, check out this article titled “Facts and myths about Obama’s preventive detention proposal”

I checked out your link Harrison and I noticed something there, it said..
“(b) the fact that, by all accounts, this “war” will not be over for decades, if ever, which means — unlike for traditional POWs, who are released once the war is over — these prisoners are going to be in a cage not for a few years, but for decades, if not life.”
It’s funny how most seem to get the idea that this little problem of ours (which is global in nature)will not just ‘go away’ no matter what we may try to do about it.
Considering that, I would suggest that until we can find a way to live with this little global-natured problem of ours (and the world’s problem too for that matter) that we DON”T let it come here and fester itself inside America. For example, see this news link:

Finally, I just want to know, does the world really need yet another Islamic country with all of the backwardness that would surely be attatched to that..in my country? I detest. Let the great experiment take place somewhere else, perhaps in a place that could most benifit from such ‘hope and change’.. somewhere like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, take your pick.. any Islamic country would do really. Because, the last time I checked none of these countries are supportive of the non-muslims in their country and the “let’s force democracy on them here experiment(s)” is not going so well in Europe, Londonstan, Britain, etc.. Either! And so, I say let them “unclench their fists” FIRST!–> AND THEY CAN DO IT WAY OVER THERE TOO! BECAUSE, NO WE CAN’T, BUT, “YES THEY CAN!” LOL, sorry but all this hope and change is making me excited and making my leg tingle.
I’m just going to end this by saying that I do not think that this liquid melting pot (America) of ours would be good as a cold & hard waxeded mold of Mohammad, which includes a berkha to cover over our lady of liberty. Sigh.
