Read Obama's Lips – No New Taxes!
Whoops, I was talking about President George H.W. Bush, actually:
As seems to be the case when talking about Obama and his promises a president Bush usually follows (H.W. or W. doesn’t matter which maybe). Here’s Obama when he was running on “hope” and “change” not that long ago:
Why do I bring this up and make this comparison? Only because it looks like President Obama is set to break yet another campaign promise (and not something minor like turning the thermostat up from 68 degrees, either):
White House senior adviser David Axelrod said the president won’t rule out a health care reform bill that includes a middle-class tax hike.
So when pressed as to whether President Obama would stick to his pledge the response sounded, well, typically political for an administration that promised to, you know, be better than all that “politics as usual” stuff:
I pressed Axelrod on whether Obama will draw a line in the sand and veto any bill that funds health care reform with tax hikes for people making under $250,000 a year — despite a pledge Barack Obama made during the 2008 presidential campaign not to raise taxes on the poor and middle-class.
“One of the problems we’ve had in this town is that people draw lines in the sand and they stop talking
to each other. And you don’t get anything done. That’s not the way the president approaches us. He is very cognizant of protecting people — middle class people, hard-working people who are trying to get along in a very difficult economy. And he will continue to represent them in these talks,” Axelrod said.
But that’s okay… because you can just join a union and the Democrats won’t tax your healthcare like they will everybody else:
The best chance for compromise legislation on health care may be a plan under construction in the Senate Finance Committee that would pay for a public plan in part by taxing some worker health benefits.
But the union workers who helped Democrats win Congress and the White House and whose support will be key in getting a health bill signed into law would not pay the tax.
When Bush went back on his pledge it contributed to his electoral loss. The press had a field day… will the same happen to Obama? Looks like the Hope and Changers are really getting the same thing as always.
Barack Obama thanks you for your support!

I guess there are only so many different topics in the news for us to cover! Great minds think alike.

I just got back from Washington, and I didn’t see any sand nor any lines. Maybe instead of teabagging parties there should be sandbagging parties. A little sand in the gears of Washington might be a good thing. Do we really want our politicians to be so productive?
I would much rather be protected from Obama than by Obama.

I’m jealous I’m from D.C. Hope you had fun the non-political aspect makes it a great town.

if obama keeps this up, he will not have any campaign promises left to break in a year.
17:05
Wow, you act Obama is so bad, it ain’t like he started a war based on lies to help his oil buddies like Bush did. Can you name a president in recent history that hasn’t broken a campaign promise? Besides, when the opposition on the right refuses to work with you, you have to make compromises sometimes.
17:17
We all know the Democrats didn’t think there were WMDs in Iraq:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/wmdquotes.asp
And the proposal to go to war with Iraq was sent to the Senate where numerous Democrats voted for it but I guess you forgot about that, eh?
Besides, please tell me what that has to do with Obama breaking a pledge not to raise taxes.
Making compromises is fine, breaking core pledge after core pledge is not what we expected from a Hope and Changer and from someone who said he was better than all of that.
22:23
Ignoring your utter BS about the Iraq War, Bob, I’d like to point out that Obama has already shown that he plans something much worse for our country than the worst made-up claim you can come up with about Bush. Obama is attempting to bring every possible aspect of our economy under the rule of government, in order to help his union/ACORN buddies.
If your inane counterpoint were true, I’d still prefer that horrible picture to a President attempting to socialize his own people. Alas, yours isn’t. Try again.

any time a campaign promise is broken, right or left, it is an issue. look again at what was written above. GB I promised no new taxes, and he went back on his word. it was the mistake that started his downfall.
the fact that he has already gone back, or is planning to go back, on many of his promised policies so early in a presidency is clearly a sign of obama’s naiviety. he made promises that he had no idea how to keep just to get elected.
even more infuriating is the double standard applied just because of political affiliation.
20:03
That’s pretty much it. Obamaheads love to talk about the “principle” of a thing and what it “means” but when it comes to pointing out what their Dear Leader has done to violate principles they claim to cherish they call it “hate.”
I call it pointing out the obvious.
Thanks for your comment, JD.

…and watch it with the Bush references. he is already following/supporting many of the policies the Bush did.

Is the USA really so divided in Pro and Anti Obama that nobody can see the things clearly anymore?

As I mentioned earlier, I lived three times in the USA, and I found the American pretty obsessed with ‘taxes’. Always the same dumb talks. As a community you have something called social responsibility or will a Red Flag now raised and me be labelled as ‘Communist’?!

That’s because we don’t want a 52% maximum rate like you have in Holland.
Social responsibility is different from government dependence.

social responsibility??? I’ve lived for years in Europe, and found that the European is pretty obsessed with vacuous buzzwords.

In the Netherlands NOBODY pays 52% of taxes! You go the a tax inspector and he helps you out how to avoid paying tax. Its in the benefit of the state and the entrepreneur!

52% is the maximum tax rate for the Netherlands Hans. I’m sure at least 1 person in the entire country pays that. Probably at least 2. Maybe more.

You bullheaded conservative wackos are just a waste of my time. I give up!
12:03
So asserting the facts and calling the person who broke his promise makes us wackos? What does that make you?
15:33
your asserting a bunch of twisted facts that make your point without telling all the facts and I have no time to debate any further.
