Obama Shows Empathy Towards Ayatollah ali Khamenei

Its an important quality in a leader.

It's an important quality in a leader.

Some words on Obama’s reaction to the Iranain election on Breitbart.com:

President Barack Obama says he believes supreme leader Ayatollah ali Khamenei has deep concerns about the civil unrest that has followed the hotly contested presidential election there.

Obama repeated Tuesday at a news conference his “deep concerns” about the disputed balloting. He said he believes the ayatollah’s decision to order an investigation “indicates he understands the Iranian people have deep concerns.”

Since nothing official happens in Iran without the blessing of Ayatollah ali Khamenei I find it somewhat curious that Obama would believe that man has “deep concerns” over what is going on in that country because the people believe the election was rigged.

Maybe somebody could clue our president in to the fact that Ayatollah ali Khamenei either knows or ordered the results to be rigged (probably both).

The article continues:

But at the same time, Obama said it would not be helpful if the United States was seen by the world as “meddling” in the issue.

The president did say, however, that he worries “when I see violence directed at peaceful protesters, when I see peaceful protest being suppressed.”

So when Obama went to Cairo and said these words:

“To all other peoples and governments who are watching today . . . know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and we are ready to lead once more.”

He added: “To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.”

I guess he wasn’t including Iran because we had “meddled” in their country..?  Funny, he didn’t use that disclaimer originally.

  • An interesting theory about Israel.

  • He hasn’t played it safe with his sweeping comments in Cairo or closing Gitmo, the AIG bonus “outrage,” closing Gitmo, or the “torture” debate. Why play it safe now?

  • Both Richard Lugar and Pat Buchanan have praised Obama’s approach. Mitt Romney and John McCain, on the other hand, have criticized him along the lines that you are doing so. What I think the critics such as yourself are forgetting is that if we are seen as taking a hard line against Ahmadinejad and his supporters, that only adds fuel to the fire. Our actions often have the opposite effect of what we might want. We have to be smart and use some reverse psychology here. Also it may be true that hard-liners in Israel would actually prefer dealing with Ahmadinejad, but I don’t think that is what the administration wants.

    • All I can say is Carter did the kid gloves thing and the Soviet Union walked all over him. Reagan played it tough and won. How are the Iranians different than the Soviets? Would the Berlin Airlift or the Cuban Missile Crisis have happened under Obama?

  • “He said he believes the ayatollah’s decision to order an investigation”

This really means nothing to me any one can say there will be an investigation, its lip service. A facade to fool the rest of the world. Lets make it look good but we choose our leaders not the people they are just here for jihad and martyrs.

  • I would think that Ayatollah Khamenei, with his wisdom and richness of experience, would reach a better conclusion at choosing a president for the Iranian people than the Iranian people would. After 2008, I am starting to think elections are overrated anyway. At least the Iranians can put a face to the puppet masters of their political leaders.

  • There is one misconception here about the current Iranian leaders: The former ambassador of the PLO to Tehran simply said: ‘not one of them are interested in co-existence with Israel. All of them from hard liners to reformists wants to destroy Israel’. Therefore its in the USA interest to play the game smart…let the different groups in Iran weakens eachother. Wahabbisme and Sji’ism (SaudiA and Iran) simple don’t recognize other faiths.
Let the USA stay out that region, and play the nice guy. The different groups in the Middle East have now a common enemy, the USA. When they are gone…they will fight each other.

    • The jilted presidential candidate was in power with they obtained nuclear technology from Khan. He is not a good guy, either. I don’t think those countries will fight each other so much as fight Israel. Their leadership is corrupt, Saudi Arabia more so. Until Islam goes through a Reformation the way Christianity did nothing is to be done with them.

Maybe you have to watch the different members of the Arab L. once, together. They are insulting, disagreeing, threatening etc. continously.
Can you mention one alliance between two different Arab countries?
How many people were killed during Iran-Iraq war, Kuwait-Iraq war, Palestinian-Jordan war, Lebanon-Syrian war, L?biyan-Egyptian war….(and not mention the wars behind the scenes) There is one thing which unites them, anger at Israel and the USA of Bush.
There is no modern Islam, but there are moderated muslims.

    • The Iran/Iraq war was able to happen because of the money and arms the U.S. provided Iraq while the Soviets picked Iran. Millions were killed and I don’t think this sort of thing will happen again. Before the British carved it up, Kuwait used to be a part of Iraq as well. Still, you are correct when you say the hatred of America and Israel unites the Arabs. I’m just not so sure America can “sit it out” or what that would really mean. After all, we give billions in aid every year to Jordan, Egypt, and Israel in addition to propping up the Saudis with military support.

  • Excellent point but remember, Obama said in Cairo that the U.S. would not “interfere” in the internal affairs of another country.

I’ve travelled, and still doing so, a lot. Been to often in the Middle East to keep my mouth shut. Millions were killed because life doesn’t count for Arabs and extreme muslims.
In 10 years the oil fields are dwellep up. Do you think they, the Arabs, will be still important? Billions of € are spent to keep dictators sharp. Break with it, the volcano erupts once and a while like in 1979 in Iran. In 1980 I told myself, not the commies are the enemy, the extreme muslims!
Dubai is the exemption here. And give Persia back its own heritage.

  • What’s the old political adage: when your enemy is busy shooting himself in the foot just stand back and watch. Obama has nothing to gain with an overheated response to events in Iran. The smart play is to let events unfold with a gentle nudge here and there.

As opposed to domestic politics where we have a lot of mules who require a good whack on the head with a two by four to get their attention :)
