Americans Discover the Virtures of Firearms

Refusing to be a victim is the first step.
In a sign of the times, more and more people are buying firearms to ensure their safety. As long as you spend the time learning how to use your firearm and store it properly, there is no better way to stay safe aside from moving into a police station. It seems as though this example comes from increased police layoffs:
The first round of Toledo police layoffs, in which 75 officers were let go, may already be having an affect on gun ownership.
“I just don’t feel safe with the amount they’re laying off,” says Jonna Ewing. “I think it’s going to be a longer respond time.”
She is spending the day at a conceal carry class. She’s been thinking of getting a gun for awhile, but feels now’s the time due to the recent layoffs.
She’s not alone. Case in point, someone in Jonna’s class wears one those infamous police t-shirts: “I called 911 and all I got was this lousy garbage can” that showed up soon after the TPD cuts.
When you own a firearm, learn how to use it, and are responsible the saying: “When seconds count, dial 9-11 so they’ll be there in minutes” rings true. Owning a learning to use your firearm not only teaches you responsibility but also can boost your confidence because you lose your victim’s mentality. In fact, this is an interesting and typical view of a woman who, once “afraid” of guns got one herself and became more confident:
Of course my husband’s suggestion met with my “misunderstanding” of guns; after all, I am a nurse. I gave the normal response: “Guns are dangerous” to which my husband responded, “That’s why we are taking a gun safety course.” Wanting something that my husband and I could do together, I gave in to his petition and signed up for the two-hour class.
Statistics did not fail in my case, and I soon realized the value of carrying a concealed weapon to protect myself. I claimed the phrase I saw on a girl’s t-shirt: “I refuse to be a victim.” That is where I am today, a female member of KC3 fighting for my right not to be a victim, and that is why I have decided to write this column. I want to help other women understand that guns are not what the media makes them out to be; that in the hands of responsible citizens, they are a valid means of self-defense.
While it is a shame that our streets may be getting less safe due to economic conditions, I think it is a positive step that people are not buying into the Brady Campaign’s efforts to make legal gun ownership out to be some sort of an evil. The more people who learn how to use firearms and join the NRA, the more likely our rights are to be preserved for future generations from gun grabbing Liberals and Democrats who are afraid of people exercising their rights.
