Obama Makes Americans Pay for World's Sins

Ironically, union states will get hurt most under Cap-and-Trade though they are the biggest supporters of Democrats.

Cap-and-Trade.  Sounds like a boardgame, doesn’t it?  In reality it will put Americans out of work, send businesses under, hurt the poorest Americans, raise our bills and our taxes, and produce little to show for it except a larger U.S. governmnet.  What’s not to like?

The “cap” part comes from a governmnet panel that will decide how much CO2 a business can produce.  If they produce over this arbitrary amount they will be fined.  The “trade” part comes into play if another company produces less CO2 than they are allowed so they have credits they can then sell to the companies that are over their CO2 quota.  In a memo from the White House it is stated:

“Making the decision to regulate carbon dioxide … for the first time is likely to have serious economic consequences for regulated entities throughout the U.S. economy, including small businesses and small communities,” the document reads.

The cost?  Only about $2 trillion or so.  Where’s that money going to come from?  You guessed it… from you.  The reason for this limiting of CO2?  To “save” the planet of course.  You’d think, then, that American cities must be CO2 factories, right?  Wrong.  In a recent study by the Blacksmith Institute, American cities don’t even make it into the top 50 worldwide!  Most of the cities are in the former USSR (no surprise there), China (again, no surprise), India (with so many people and such poverty no surprise), and Africa (due to strip mining).  Here’s the complete report.

So why are Americans getting stuck with the bill?  Is it Liberal guilt?  Is it because America is such a wasteful country?  Why..?  Simply put: so President Obama can pay for his socialized healthcare system.  After all, socialized healthcare will be very expensive and $2 trillion will go a long way towards paying for it.  Again, another example of Liberals trying to claim the moral high ground but, in reality, it’s just a straw man so they can take our money away and spend it on things that have nothing to do with the stated cause… in this case the “environment.”

2/3rds of Chinas 343 major cities fail air quality standards.

2/3rds of China's 343 major cities fail air quality standards.

The papermill or steelmill in Pennsylvania will pay more than the biotech company in California.  The car company in Detroit or Ohio will pay more than the furniture company in North Carolina.  The union members who build those cars in Detroit or make that steel in Pennsylvania will feel the pain more than the tofu eating white collar worker in San Jose.  The poor guy will get it while the rich guy won’t.

What’s the first thing companies do when the money they have to pay to the governmnet increases?  They raise prices.  When their prices become higher than their competitors what’s the second thing that happens?  They layoff workers.  What’s the third thing they do after they layoff workers but are still uncompetitive?  They close and layoff everybody.

Shouldn’t the 50 “dirtiest” cities in the world have to pay for “Cap-and-Trade” before hardworking Americans?  Well… yes… but that’s not what you get when Liberals run the show, is it?

  • like most of obama’s schemes, they are extremely short-sighted and will fall right on their keisters. actually, i am worried because he will be applauded for his efforts, even when the collossal EPIC FAIL occurs.

anyone think this administration is reeking of Carterism? just a thought.

    • Thanks for your comments. I think people have compared Obama to Carter. It is too early to tell but there are some similarities… mainly in his “talking” to hostile regmines.

A lot of Liberalism is about symbolism, even if it doesn’t actually produce results so I think you’re right about that, too.

  • Your maps are misleading. Utah has a high carbon emission per capita, because we have a low population and produce a lot of energy that is mostly consumed by California, Arizona, and Nevada. So Utahns get shafted. One day we need to have a shut of the power/water switch to California and treat you guys like Putin treats Western Europe. Of course this same thing happens on a global scale. Californians can pat themselves on the back for cutting their emissions, but this isn’t going to stop someone else from producing the pollution that they won’t as long as there is a global marketplace to sustain this. In the end the resources of the planet will still be consumed as long as there is a market for them. Engineering a prolonged recession will probably reduce emissions more in the short run than cap and trade will, so we have to give liberals credit for their relentless pursuit to create a prolonged recession.

    • I noticed the map is somewhat misleading. What is the main source of power generation in Utah? Is it coal?

If California opened up drilling again they would get so much money from taxes that this would probably erase much of their deficit. But that won’t happen.

I don’t see Cap-and-Trade as a method of reducing energy consumption more of a way to take in money. It’s like cigarette taxes… the governmnet hopes people don’t quit so their revenue doesn’t drop.
