San Francisco's Liberals Make the City Pay $800,000.00 to the NRA
I am a resident of San Francisco and bought my first firearm shortly before the ballot initiave to ban handguns from city limits. Before the measure went to the voters I had never given much thought towards ever owning a firearm. After seeing the social breakdown that followed hurricane Katrina I considered getting a gun but once I began to see that I might actually lose a right guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution I not only bought a handgun but joined the NRA and became politically active. I have the Liberal mentality to thank for this.
Now we learn that this Liberal foolishness of trying to ban handguns has resulted in an $800,000.00 bill that San Francisco had to pay recently:
Fairfax, Va. – The City of San Francisco has paid $380,000 to the National Rifle Association (NRA) as reimbursement for legal fees incurred while striking down Proposition H, passed by San Francisco voters in November 2005.
“Freedom and common sense prevailed in San Francisco. Proposition H was a foolish scheme by anti-gun politicians to disarm only the law-abiding in San Francisco,” said NRA chief lobbyist Chris Cox. “NRA promised we would do everything we could to overturn this ill-conceived gun ban, and I am pleased to say that we have delivered on that promise. We will now put these funds back into use to advance self-defense civil rights in legislatures and courts.”
Combined with more than $200,000 in fees paid to City lawyers defending the ordinance and an equal value of lawyers time donated to the City for the unsuccessful defense of this case, the total costs to City taxpayers in defending against Proposition H, a civilian disarmament attempt, approaches $800,000.
No wonder San Francisco is going broke. The city has also tried, many times, to kick out the only gun store within city limits despite the fact that many San Francisco police officers shop there. I try and give them my business when I can.

I also lived in S.F. when this ballot initiative was presented to voters; I now live in San Rafael. I knew that even if the initiative passed, the NRA would take it to court and win. So, it was a waste of time and money but liberal politicians trying to score points with a rabid left (and also driven by a hatred of Bush) pushed on. Of course, now everybody that lives in the City pays for their selfish political agenda.

Yes, I have talked to many people who moved out of S.F. because of the expense. The City is broke in large part because of their Liberal spending priorities and, ironically, the poorer people and middle class are the ones paying the price for it.
