Closing Gitmo – Hell No!

Once again Democratic rhetoric meets the road and it’s a no go. Democrats can spin this any way they want but most of the party campaigned on closing Gitmo, Obama made it a promise and signed an Executive Order to close the prison on his second day in office but, whoops, now his own party won’t fund the relocation!

You can’t blame it on Democrats not being informed as to what Obama was going to do because they had at least a year’s notice.  You also can’t say it was because they opposed closing Gitmo – they said they wanted it closed.  So what could be the reason?  Nobody wants their yes vote to be the reason why these bad guys end up in their districts.

To say this is embarrassing to President Obama would be an understatement.  But what it really underscores is all of these lofty moral arguments Liberals put forth that are great until someone has to take responsibility for it.  Sure, in theory it’s great but in reality it’s a different thing.  Kind of like other Obama reversals about not holding detainees indefinitely or upholding the Bush-era rule on polar bears and global warming.

Expect to see many more of these “setbacks” as reality meets rhetoric.

Until then, enjoy Harry Reid say “no” to closing Gitmo (notice how many times he references the Republicans who were never in favor of closing it to begin with):
