Reaching the Boiling Point
With news that the EPA is moving towards making a decision whether to consider “greenhouse gases” as a threat to the public, let’s take a look at what isn’t being discussed and, most importantly… why. Greenhouse gases are generally considered to be Carbon Dioxide, or CO2, and Methane. CO2 comes from many sources… the tailpipes of cars and fossil fuel power plants, the exhaling of animals, and the nighttime release of plants. Methane comes from decaying plants and animals with tiny amounts coming from cow farts and combustion of fossil fuels.

Turns out Global Warming isn't a gas.
The public has been taught that we are burning too many fossil fuels in our greedy SUVs and that this activity is giving our planet a “fever” from which we will all suffer… oceans will rise, weather will become harsher, etc. But how much do fossil fuels contribute towards this “warming” about which we hear so much? If you look at the accompanying chart you will see that water vapor (natural and man made)… the stuff you get when you take a hot shower, contributes almost 94.5% toward the “warming” of our planet… all of the other gases add about 5.5% (almost all of which occurs naturally). So much fuss is being made about such a small percentage, isn’t it?
According to the National Geographic:
But only now has a study uncovered evidence that water vapor is a major public enemy in Europe.
The politicians cannot do anything about water vapor and I bet if you think back to everything you’ve ever heard about “Global Warming” you’ll recall that you’ve probably never heard it mentioned once… that’s pretty strange considering it contributes to almost 95% of “climate change” in the world! You’d think if one thing was responsible for so much you would have at least heard of it. The fact that you haven’t should be a clear indication that those who are trying to regulate tailpipe emissions or carbon offset taxes or a BTU tax don’t want you to know about it because then their position would vanish.
Fact is, there is a lot about “Global Warming” you have not heard. Former President George W. Bush has been castigated for having not tried to push for the Kyoto Protocols to become law even though they were negotiated under the presidency of Bill Clinton. Way back in 1997 the Kyoto Protocols were sent to the U.S. Senate where it was defeated by a vote of 95-0 (John Kerry (D) and Edward Kennedy (D) voted against it).
Allowing the EPA to regulate “greenhouse gases” would mean that any source which emitted these gases could be taxed including coal plants, natural gas plants, steel mills, or vehicle emissions. Essentially, the U.S. government or state governments, looking for a new source of revenue to support their bloated budgets could tax away under the claim that they are really doing so to lower “greenhouse gases” and thus help “save” the planet. But how much of “global warming” does 5.5% really contribute?

"Evil" H2O
In order for an inert material to cause a warming effect it must itself have the capacity to retain and then radiate heat. Basic experience shows that a bucket of warm water will retain heat for many hours while the same percentage of gas will not. Water, in fact, is one of the best mediums for storing energy which is why it is so effective in geothermal heating and cooling systems. But were the Greenies to concede the point that almost all climate change is caused by natural causes then they would undermine their argument that forcing people to burn fewer fossil fuels will do anything at all. If their argument for burning fewer fossil fuels is undermined then how could politicians tax more and thus increase government revenues allowing them to increase spending on all of the social programs they want? The answer is a commonsense one… were the “Global Warming” crowd to acknowledge the facts they would have to go away and find a new cause to trumpet.

Hot air that is natural.
Let’s return for a moment to the CO2 debate. Ignoring the facts about water vapor and assuming that cutting CO2 emissions would help to reduce this warming trend about which we hear so much, what would be the impact? Let’s say we could all return to a Dark Ages lifestyle and humans would promise not to burn logs or exhale how much CO2 would we keep out of the atmosphere? The answer is that 96.775% of all CO2 on Earth is natural thus a whopping 3.225% would be withheld. How much impact do you really think 3.225% would have on the worldwide climate? The answer, of course, is basically zero. Don’t let people like Al Gore hear you come to this conclusion based on facts such as these… you might be made to look stupid in front of the Greenie groupies.
According to an article in Slate:
It’s unassailably true that water vapor is the gas most responsible for the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases let shortwave solar radiation through the atmosphere, but impede the escape of long-wave radiation from the Earth’s surface. This process keeps the planet at a livable temperature: Without a suitably balanced mixture of water vapor, CO2, methane, and other gases in the atmosphere, the planet’s average surface temperature would be somewhere between -9 and -34 degrees Fahrenheit, rather than the balmy 59 degrees it is today.
The facts are, all man made sources of “Global Warming” account for only 0.28% of the warming trend!

You should be concerned with the mumbo jumbo science being practiced in Washington, D.C., in the media, and at cocktail parties around the world because it’s not really about “protecting the planet” it’s about sucking more money out of your paycheck for a reason based on a lie and forcing you to change your lifestyle to what certain people think it should be (even though they fly in private jets and use more energy than some small towns). And that’s the truth.

All this talk about greenhouse gasses is wrong. People like greenhouses and won’t be upset. To upset them we have to call it something like stinkhouse gasses. Or refer to the atmosphere as the dead fish atmosphere. You know, something like that. If Al Gore went around saying that things in Texas never smell good and never will he would be president today. And don’t go to Texas, it really does smell bad.

If you’ve ever driven on I-5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles around the hog farms then you know what bad smells really are.

Interesting.
My wife and I would be curious as to where you got your datum early on in the article.
Remember what Mark Twain said about statisticians: they are damnliars. If you think you are David knocking over Al Gore’s Goliath, only time and retrospect will tell.
It is no sense to blame Clinton OR Bush or anyone else specific for not following up on Kyoto. As I said: these are all bipartisan problems. All politics is MAYA, or illusion.
And thank you for not bringing Obama into this and thus giving him a tabula rasa and a trial run. The man has more of the world on his shoulders than any of us does……might as well rename him Atlas!
Which brings up my final point: we are really talking world government here. All this griping about big government in the us is starting to make me wonder……do these people really get the point? It is an interconnected and global field. The issue is not even the USA, but the world.
Big government is almost unavoidable at this point. And don’t forget, military is as much a wing of government as the EPA.
Anyway, interesting thoughts on CO2 as natural. Interesting comment by Rob too.

There are plenty of studies on water vapor and the role it plays in “global warming.” The Democrats have made the issue political because they seek to use it as an excuse to further their agenda.
