The Apologist
Sometimes, saying you’re sorry is the best policy – unless of course doing so is unwarranted because it ignores the facts. Saying your sorry is an admission of having done something wrong – why apologize otherwise? President Obama made such an error during his inauguration speech when he said: “”to the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.” What a minute… which country liberated Kuwait, braved Bosnia, or tried to feed the hungry Muslims in Somalia? In saying that the U.S. has been wrong in our approach towards Muslims Obama sent out the message that the U.S. has treated them badly.
He negates to mention that Iran took Americans hostage or that Muslim terrorists blew up the U.S. Marine compound in Lebanon, or that Muslim terrorists bombed American embassies in Africa and tried to sink the U.S.S. Cole. His “apology” glosses over these facts and sends the wrong message.
I’m not trying to suggest that our conduct in every part of the world and to every nation, faction, and people has been stellar but if Americans – and America – didn’t treat Muslims with respect then how could someone whose father was Muslim and who spent time in Muslim countries living under their traditions have been elected president of the U.S.?
